What’s a typical day like for you?

As the owner of a bricks and mortar flower shop, my days are all over the place. Some are spent at the shop working on the computer: marketing, bookkeeping, planning, making quotes for special client events, etc.

On others, I’m busy talking to clients, making flower designs for upcoming orders, and displaying our many fun giftware pieces. Otherwise, I’m probably out at the flower market picking up bucket loads of blooms to fill the shop with, or else delivering and setting up our event work at various venues across the city.

What in your life is really important to you?

Family & friendship, colour, and flowers.

What would you like to be remembered for?

For being kind and helping make the lives of those around me happier.

What role does fashion play in your life?

I recently read that each day, we should “dress for the JOY you want,” and it really resonated with me.

I’m not super fashionable, I’m not really interested in dressing to impress, and I don’t follow trends, but I love wearing clothes that feel good, have colour and pattern, and fashions that make me smile.

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective?

Supporting local makers and designers is an important part of running Periwinke Flowers, so I love that Fresh Collective shares that same ethos of supporting our own homegrown talent.

I also really appreciate that Fresh Collective has bricks and mortar shops, as well as online shopping options for those who need them.

Because I’m one of those people that likes to see and touch things in person, shopping online doesn’t really work for me, but Fresh Collective gathers unique, wearable clothes from really great designers, all into one place, with a really great eye for what pieces work well together to build a wardrobe. That’s very unique, in my opinion.

What do you have that you want to promote?

If you’re in the city of Toronto or know someone who is, I definitely want you to know about my flower shop, Periwinkle Flowers!

We’re located in midtown at Mt Pleasant Rd and Eglinton, and we deliver across the city. Our style of work is joyful, colourful, and just a little wild, with a heavy dose of whimsy.

We love weddings and events, of course, but our main day-to-day work is serving our wonderful clients that stop by for a few stems to treat themselves or a friend to every week, or for those sending flowers to mark a special moment in life. Flowers are one of those lovely little pleasures in life that make people happy!

As a new Fresh Collective Affiliate, what got you interested in joining our Affiliate Program? How does it tie in with the work you already do?

I’m delighted to be a Fresh Collective Affiliate because it means I can help promote another bricks and mortar small business in the city, sharing the same business ethos I do: that well-made and locally-designed is not only possible, but beautiful as well.

What first inspired you to become a florist and open up your own business? What’s one of your favourite aspects of running Periwinkle Flowers?

While I actually got into flowers almost accidentally, by taking a floral course to “fill some time” after dropping out of a journalism program in university, when I examine things in retrospect I realize that flowers have always been a part of my life.

As a child, I had a small patch of garden to tend to on my own. I love owning a physical shop most of all and being part of our local community.

Plus, having an impact on our clients lives is just the best feeling in the world. And of course, working with beautiful flowers every day doesn’t hurt, either.

Besides wedding arrangements, what popular floral services does Periwinkle offer? Do you sell potted plants as well?

We do sell lots of indoor plants  (including, of course, the currently-trending succulents and cacti!), as well as many handmade/locally made pieces such as candles, soaps, cute handmade pots, and more.

The majority of our business is actually fresh flower bouquets and arrangements for regular orders, which our clients can request to have delivered or come by the shop to pick up in-person.

We also have a very popular “Weekender Bouquet Series,” which lets our clients choose from a sweet and simple posy arrangement, or a mini vase of our favourite blooms of the week. These are ready to grab-and-go at a nice, easy price point of $25. And if you sign up for our Weekender Club, every 10th Weekender purchase is free!

How does Periwinkle stand apart from other floral boutiques in Toronto?

We’re definitely not the typical florist that many people think of!

If you’re looking for mounded balls of all-white hydrangea and roses, we’re probably not the right shop for you. But if you love colour and energy in your flowers, we’re definitely your jam.

We don’t make the flowers “try” too hard. They’re pretty much perfect as they are, so what we do is concentrate more on showing them off with the best presentation.

Because most of what we carry is local, you’re going to see many blooms that are a little more off the beaten path, and the mix will change as we move from season to season.

My life is about finding the right balance and harmonizing the elements that are most important to my joy and success. Leaving the corporate world to be my own boss brought both terror and exhilaration.

Now my life is about hurling across space, releasing my grip, and reaching for the next bar. I am navigating the tricky bits of my life, keeping my eye on the target, trusting myself, and revelling in each moment.

What’s a typical day like for you?

I start my day after hitting snooze about 5 times. Then, I remember all the great things I get to do every day as a coach and get on with my routine. I have a 10-minute, 5-step morning process of hydration, gratitude, focus, visualization, and movement. It’s simple, and it gets me going when I have little time.

I chunk out my days, with allocated periods for working with clients, exploring new business ventures, and writing articles. Being a multipreneur, this helps me to keep all the balls successfully in the air. My schedule is such that I can work in quality time with my daughter and deal with household items, as well.

Of course, when you’re running your own show, you’re “on” a lot of the time — and it’s a good thing that I love what I do! Regardless of the volume of work some days, I try to follow what I preach about self-care. You must put yourself first or else you aren’t good for anyone else. That means injecting joy into my day as much as possible, even if it’s a 5-minute meditation or a few cuddles with our rescue kitten.

What in your life is really important to you?

I’ve had a few uh-ha moments that gave me pause about my life. Life is short, and you must do what makes you happy. My family is #1 in my life, and besides that, it’s important to me to live with intention, do meaningful work, and make a difference. It’s my mission to help women find their voice and become what they’re capable of becoming.

What would you like to be remembered for?

First and foremost, I want people to remember me as a good role model for my daughter. I have the privilege of mothering a beautiful, creative, spirited tween, and she keeps me on my toes. It’s so critical for girls to build confidence and self-worth at an early age, and I want to be part of that skill-building process for women, too. Inspiring women to take the reins of their lives and working with them to create awareness, confidence, joy, and success – that’s what gets me going every single day.

What role does fashion play in your life?

My daytime wardrobe has shifted over the years, depending on the culture of the organizations with which I worked. Now, as a busy mompreneur, I tend to choose soft, flowy, classic, durable pieces for every day, and more fun and fashionable items to wear when I go out to network with women in the community, meet clients, or enjoy a date night with my Mr. Right.

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective?

I love the personal service at Fresh Collective. They get why women need to feel good in their clothes and insist that you only buy something you love. Online shopping at the boutique isn’t intimidating, either. Real women are featured, and you can picture yourself wearing the outfits.

I tend to be a bulk-shopper, and when I find clothes that fit right, inspire confidence, and make me feel like myself, I can’t resist! The clothes at Fresh Collective are perfect for my trapeze-artist lifestyle.

What do you have that you want to promote?

I work with busy women who want to beat overwhelm, connect to what matters most, and live a purpose-driven life – without guilt. I help them to rediscover their brilliance, take back their power, and create a life they love.

To support these results, I offer my services in several ways. I have individual coaching packages, in-person workshops and group coaching, and specific coaching programs like Out of Overwhelm, Who Am I, What To Do With My Life, Create A Life You Love Total Transformation.

For those interested in creating a career they love, I offer career exploration and job search programs, training and coaching on Interviewing, and resume writing.

I love sharing my advice using the written word and I’m a published writer and active expert contributor for several online magazines, in addition to the articles I write for my website. You can follow my blog at www.lisapetsinis.com/blog, or sign up for my newsletter and get my free resources.

What got you out of your two decades of HR work and into life and career coaching? Any advice for those looking to take a similar path?

I’d been in the people development field for 23 years, so it wasn’t such a big leap to want to become a certified coach. I was burning out, and I knew there was a career out there that would enable me to be my best self, create a lifestyle that was good for my family, and at the same time transform people’s lives.

My advice to you if you’re feeling stuck is that you don’t have to make a drastic change. Take time to reconnect with yourself. When I was figuring out what I wanted to do with my life at age 46 (it’s never too late!), I took up mindfulness, and it was a game changer. I then delved into my interests, values, strengths, and innate preferences – and dug deep. I hired a coach, explored possibilities, and I create a new and compelling vision for my life.

Brooke Maxi Dress – Fade by Mandala Clothing

I went back to school and earned credentials as a certified coach with the International Coach Federation (ACC), Certified Career Coaching Specialist, and certified Strong Interest Inventory® practitioner – on top of my HR Leader (CHRL) and MBTI® certifications.

My advice to others is to do the same. Invest in yourself, and you’ll find your path and your purpose.

So, as a certified coach, what got you interested in joining our Affiliate Program? How does it tie in with the work you already do?

It’s natural for me to share information about what works with people, whether that’s healthy products, life lessons, career advice, or clothes that make you feel fantastic. Joining the Fresh Collective Affiliate Program was an easy decision.

I envision my clients getting their back-to-work wardrobes together, boosting their confidence with a dress that shows their personality, or simply picking up something that sparks joy. My clients deserve to say, “I love my life!” and “I feel amazing wearing this!”

You offer FREE discovery coaching calls! How long is the call, and what can I expect from our conversation?

I offer a 20-minute complimentary coaching call to help women determine what they want to be different in their lives and identify what they have to gain by moving forward. They walk away with one simple yet impactful step that they can implement right away. On this call, we also figure out whether it’s a fit for us to work together.

Is there anything else we should know about you?

I’m a self-professed Passion Planner addict. I consult it, decorate it, and virtually nothing happens that isn’t in my planner!  I also love vision boards! I have 3 of them, and I run full-day workshops so that other women can create a clear vision of a life they love!
