Last week our Marketing Manager, Jenna and our fearless leader Laura-Jean had a fun night out on the town celebrating local fashion. Below is a guest blog post from Jenna sharing all the night’s adventures and discoveries… Read on!
Last Wednesday, Laura-Jean and I went to Fashion Takes Action’s Connect Beauty event and had a spectacular time! Our friend Kelly Drennan was hosting her annual fundraiser to support both Fashion Takes Action and the WHEN Network.
We were excited to walk to the venue, but the darn weather wouldn’t cooperate so Laura-Jean picked me up in the Fresh Mobile at 6:45pm. I knew it was going to be a great night as when I walked out the door of the office. LJ looked at me with her jaw dropped and said “Wow! I only put my hair in a pony tail”! HA! I had done a pin up style do to match my adorable Michelle Carey polka dot Amy Dress ($175)!
Hair in a pony tail or not, LJ also looked fabulous – she was wearing Brenda Beddome’s colourful side-draped dress ($182) .
Of course the minute we were ready to hit the road, the car alarm started going off. There we were, outside of our offices, in a branded car, scrambling to figure out how to turn off the car alarm. We couldn’t stop laughing, and were actually hoping it would happen again when we got to the event so we could really make a grand entrance.
Luckily (or unluckily) the alarm did not go off when we arrived, so we meekly made our way in.
This year’s event was held at Revival Night Club – which was a perfect location for the event. The whole evening was focused around eco-friendly, locally sourced and chemical free products with booths featuring local entrepreneurs, locally sourced and organic appetizers, and four long tables full of green, earth friendly products for the silent auction, including an awesome cardigan from our very own Paper People Clothing!
LJ and I made sure to stop at every booth. We’re on the hunt for locally sourced, luxurious products for the 2013 holiday season, and found several amazing possibilities including ECM – Eco Chic Movement owned by Dr. Alexis Reid who was displaying amazing, all natural, long lasting lip balms, Tova of T. Langhans, an ultra luxurious soap hand crafted with premium natural ingredients, and LOVE in our Lives, Canada’s exclusive distributor of Raw Gaia vegan organic skin care.
If that wasn’t awesome enough, we saw three women at the event wearing designers carried at Fresh Collective! Mariah from Love in Our Lives was wearing the belted faux wrap dress from Brenda Beddome ($172) while working her booth – she looked fantastic and we couldn’t resist getting a picture with her. We also ran into Joclyn at the event as well, wearing her new Rita Di Cesare Christina tank dress ($159). She told us she is a loyal FC customer who loves visiting our stores. I don’t think LJ could have lit up more when she said that – we want women to feel fabulous in our stores and in the clothing we carry and we were both so proud and excited to see real women out and about at this event looking fabulous in these amazing Toronto designers.
Next came the Fashion Show and live auction. We had front row seats to the show! As the models strutted right past us, we got a close up look at the wonderful outfits. All of the models were real people who supported the eco-friendly movement. Our friends at Peach Berserk had an awesome pink number showcased that ended up going fast in the auction!
I had a great time with Laura-Jean at The Fashion Takes Action Connect Beauty event. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful organization like Fashion Takes Action in Toronto to support local designers, and make the world a better place. It was a great opportunity for us to review luxurious, locally sourced products that we could proudly sell in our stores.
I would love to get your opinions on the products we mentioned above, or any recommendations of what gift ideas you’d like to see in stores this holiday season. Please leave me a comment below and I’ll personally write back to each one!
