Additionally, Soaking your winter wools (and other fibres) before storing them, even if that just means moving them to the other end of your closet, helps decrease the likelihood of moths. Moths are actually looking for the oils from your skin, not your finest frocks. We call oils, and other invisible dirt ‘body soil’. You can’t always see it, but it’s on your clothes. Whether it’s dirt in the air from a street car ride to work, or oils from your skin on a scarf, lingerie or slip, there’s build up that you can’t see. That’s what the little critters are looking for, so Soaking your winter wardrobe before it goes into hibernation is the best way to make sure your favorite fashions are still fresh next season. Store winter clothes in a tightly sealed container for the summer season for best protection.

Steps for Soaking your winter wardrobe:

  1. Separate hand washing items from machine washing ones.
  2. For hand washing, fill a basin or sink with Soak and room temperature water.
  3. Add garments (use the bathtub if you’re washing several dresses or larger items)
  4. Allow the garments to Soak 15 minutes. If the water is super dirty, rinse and repeat.
  5. Soak + SinkupdatedCarefully remove the garments and gently roll them in a towel to remove excess water.
  6. Hang or lay flat to dry.
  7. Store in a closet or tightly sealed container.
  8. Enjoy the spring and summer while waiting for fall!

For machine washing, use Soak with cold water on the delicate cycle. Follow the instructions on your machine, and hang or lay garments flat to dry after your wash cycle is complete.

You can also Soak your spring and summer clothes before wearing them at this time of year. Soak refreshes fibers, and you’ll feel great in your best spring dresses! Regardless of the season, keep Soak by the sink so it’s always on hand. Knowing how to take care of your clothes makes you more comfortable washing them, and therefor wearing them.

So go ahead, wear your favorite clothes all the time. Just don’t forget to Soak them after!
