What’s a typical day like for you?

  • Spend the first 10 minutes convincing myself that it’s more fun out of bed than snuggled in it for another 20
  • Attend lots of meetings – where I ask tough questions about projects and then cut the resulting tension with questionable humour
  • Refresh the chocolate stash on my desk to encourage others to stop by and answer more questions
  • Fight the cats for my share of the pizza at dinner
  • Read a gory murder mystery to put myself to sleep

On special days, folks at work inspire me to make excellent changes happen… and folks in my life keep me safe while we try new things.

What do you find surprising about being in your 50’s? Is it what you thought it would be like?

I thought I’d be old. I thought I’d look tired and invisible. Really, we look the way we think & feel!

I thought I’d have more answers. Instead I’ve discovered the joy of questions and unknowns.

What role does fashion play in your life?

Fashion – and all choices around us – has me make deliberate choices about self-expression. Comfort, sustainability, colour, style all open (or close) a conversation before we even say “hello.”  I love finding ways to invite conversation without limiting what kind to hold.

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective?

Being able to support local shops & Canadian artists is important to me in fashion as in food! Plus it’s a lovely atmosphere with approachable staff.

What do you have that you want to promote?

My blog – SimilarCircles – explores the concepts of mentoring and networking, showing how necessary these concepts are to our everyday lives and building safer, more supportive communities.  The blog also strays into the side areas that tend to affect women the most – it’s a personal blog that is a mix of practical, theoretical and sometimes humourous ideas.

I also offer one/one sessions for those looking to develop their leadership skills.

Is there anything else we should know about you?

My son assures me that just about anything I don’t wish people to know about me can be found online with a simple Google search.
