What’s a typical day like for you?

Most days I’m up by 630am.  I let out the dog, have breakfast with my kids (prepared for us by my husband) and then we all rush out the door together by 7am.

Upon arriving at work, I conduct a lecture, lead a seminar, meet with students during office hours and then I’m back home (after a long commute on transit!) to make dinner, go to the gym and spend the rest of the evening enjoying my family, marking and/or preparing for the next day.

On days that I work from home I spend the day doing research, writing, marking and all of the above – but in my pjs!

What in your life is really important to you?

My family.  My community.  And making things happen for both.

What would you like to be remembered for?

My ridiculousness.  If I can make people forget themselves and feel rejuvenated by putting myself out there, then I’ll do it!

What role does fashion play in your life?

The clothes we wear tell a story about us – the mood we are in, the role we are playing (or aspire to play).

It reveals a bit about our character and helps us connect – and even inspire – one another.

I am attracted to bold colours, prints and cheeky tailoring – clothes that have fun, or make a statement, rather than fade into the background.

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective?

The variety, and that they are made by Canadian designers.  I love knowing that by shopping there I am supporting a Canadian industry – seeing Canadian stories come to life.

What sparked your love for Canadian designers?

I love the sensibility of Canadian designers – quite often using sustainable fabrics, with cuts that are flattering and infinitely wearable.

As I am more able to invest in a wardrobe, I find myself again and again drawn to Canadian fashion.  It just makes so much sense!  And I feel good buying, wearing and promoting it.

What was your favourite outfit of the shoot?

I loved the black and white tunic with the coral and green geometric print.  It has a great 80s punk vibe about it that is so much fun.  I might have to go back and buy it.

What do you have that you want to promote?

I am on the governance committee of the Parkdale Neighbourhood Land Trust, which is an initiative that is trying to protect the diversity of Parkdale by redefining how land is used and developed.

Check us out online http://www.pnlt.ca/ , or attend one of our many community events.  You’ll be impressed by what a group of individuals who love their community can do.  It’ll make you fall in love with this city all over again, and be hopeful about our future together.
