Name: Kelly Swartz
Occupation: Holistic Health Coach & Erotic Expert
Age: I tend to forget! But, mid 30s, I think.
Lifestyle: Hectic, chaotic and fun!
What’s a typical day like for you?
There is no typical day for me. I have two very young children/ dragons that more or less mandate my life.
I try to have fun time with both of them, with myself (so essential!), work out a few times a week (so necessary), be with the love of my life (in non-exhaustion mode), write, work on my blog, work with clients, research, cook…
So a typical day for me tends to be a very early morning wake-up and passing out while reading in bed at night, cuddling with my husband, with a lot in between.
What in your life is really important to you?
The unexpected surprises that life gifts me. Originality. Fresh Produce! (Really! Growing up in Mexico I am very pampered with my fruits and veggies)
My family, the one I’ve created. My family, the one I was born into. My family, the non-blood relatives that some call friends.
Books! They have always been a refuge and an inspiration.
Music! What is life without it?
My work. I love helping people, watch them transform into healthier, happier beings.
Sex! Yes please!
What would you like to be remembered for?
Leaving the world slightly better than how I found it.
Laughter. Being an eccentric. Helping others. Creativity.
What role does fashion play in your life?
I believe clothes are disguises, costumes. You can be different people by wearing assorted styles of clothes. It allows you to explore different aspects of yourself.
What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective?
The colours and style options. The people who work there are fantastic! The first time I was at a Fresh Collective was a few weeks after I had my second baby.
Nothing fit and I felt so uncomfortable in my own skin. I had a family event coming up and I wanted to feel somewhat decent. The Makeover, patience and care I had from the stylist was so nurturing.
Even in our progressive Canadian society, some women still treat topics dealing with sex and eroticism as a big taboo, or at the very least as a low priority in their lives. Why would you encourage them to think differently about discovering (or re-discovering) their sexual selves?
Our sexual selves are something we rarely speak about unless it is in regards to fertility, to the Other (as in, how others find us sexually attractive or even, how good we are in bed!), or in the context of violence (being assaulted, or how to avoid it).
We rarely, if at all, have the space or permission to think about ourselves as sexual beings in our own selves.
We are so busy being perfect for ourselves, for our jobs, for our partners and children, that we tend to forget who we are in many different areas, especially our sexual portion.
What do you have that you want to promote?
I am a Health Coach and Erotic Expert.
I work one-on-one with clients who want to be healthier in all aspects of their lives: in their food habits, sleep habits, workspace, relationships, dealing with milestones, etc. I emphasize the erotic self as a mode of self-discovery and self-pleasure.
I help people lose weight or gain weight, kick a sugar addiction, deal with chronic illness, learn how to eat healthy and yummy on a budget. I do pantry makeovers and teach how to cook and even how to shop!
I believe we all have within us the perfect ingredients in order to be the best selves we can be, but sometimes we need external help to bring those ingredients out and to find the correct ‘recipe’ to become our best version.
I also have a program in which I work one-on-one to help discover and define your erotic self. It is an unusual program since most people who deal with sex want to do it with a partner.
The kind of work I do is just you. You become the mirror to your own erotic self.
I also teach parents how to feed their baby with the baby-led-feeding method. By giving baby nourishing food, the whole family can change their eating habits and become a more wholesome and healthier family.
I also give workshops in many different topics that range from “Baby Led Weaning”, “Sex During Pregnancy and Post Partum” to “Self-Seduction”, etc.
What are some more specific examples of how you’ve helped people as a holistic health coach and erotic expert? Can I come to you if I’m suffering from poor body image, or going through a divorce? Can I come with my partner for a session of sexual counseling?
I have helped women who have very young children. They have gone through an unimaginable change in their life and lifestyle. Their bodies (if they were birth mothers) have gone through an incredible amount of fluctuation in size and hormones in a very condensed time.
They have turned from looking within to looking without all the time. Taking care of others becomes their modus vivendi and it is incredibly hard for them to realize how much they need to take care of themselves too!
I have helped people in their twenties (both men and women) discover who they are in a sexual and erotic sense, by themselves, so they could then go out into the world and find sexual partners that would nurture them.
I have helped humans who have been in long-term relationships and need to re-define their sexual selves. I have helped people who have never really asked themselves how they would like to be treated in bed.
I have helped some lovely humans who are going through very rough times, be it infertility, loss, loneliness, weight gain, body image issues, depression or anxiety. I have helped some who are going through milestones: engagement, pregnancy, life-changes.
You’re a wife, mother, seasoned traveler and have worn many different hats! What drew you from your previous paths towards becoming an erotic and holistic health coach? What do you love about the work you do?
I have! I love the work I do because it lets me help people in a way that I had been doing for a long time, but in a more structured manner. I love how each client helps me grow as a Health Coach & Erotic Expert as well as a person.
Charcoal Bird Print Midi Skirt (also available in other prints and colours!) by Toronto label Desserts and Skirts; Jessica Tee in Cardinal Red (made from organic cotton and bamboo and also available in White, Black and Blue Dusk) designed by Fresh Collective’s very own Palette by Laura-Jean
I love hearing stories and having some impact on the outcome of the narrative. I am never bored and that is amazing.
I also am very grateful for the freedom this job gives me, being my own boss makes me create my own schedule, so I can spend time with my dragons. It also means I need to push myself in order to get things done!
I believe that all the different hats and different things I have done in my life have nurtured me with experiences in order to be a great Health Coach & Erotic Expert.
