What’s a typical day like for you?

My days are all over the place, with some clocking in at 6:30 am, and others not until 10:00 am. What always happens, no matter the day, is getting up early in the morning for mindfulness and movement practice.

Getting the kids off to camps/school and then putting in a very condensed work day at the clinic is typical. That way I can manage to pick them up at the end of my day. We always have dinner as a family; it’s where we connect and get on top of anything that’s going on.

What in your life is really important to you?

Health, family and community. Working in the healthcare field really instills just how important it is to take care of the body we’ve been given.

Without my health, I wouldn’t be able to be there for my family or be active in the community.

What would you like to be remembered for?

Making a difference in the world.

We aren’t meant to do this life alone, so connecting with others
on any level, to support them, I think, is a beautiful gift for both the person giving and the receiver.

What role does fashion play in your life?

For me, fashion has to be functional.

I need to look professional at work, and also be able to drop to the ground and show exercises. On the weekends it’s very much the same; wanting to look good and being able to run around with my husband and our girls.

I love the idea of a capsule wardrobe that brings together all of these elements of fun, functionality and feeling good!

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective?

I love the way the clothes really jump out at you! Everything in the store has something unique going on; either the way it’s been cut, or the pattern or detail.

The clothes are so beautiful that you really can’t help but shine when you put them on. There is something here for everyone.

You might find a piece and think, Hmm, that’s not really my style, and then you put it on, and it fits and moves beautifully. Fresh Collective really hits the mark for a women’s clothing boutique.

What do you have that you want to promote?

I love helping women feel better in their bodies and dispelling myths about what is normal. I have a free Facebook group in which I do live weekly workouts, answer your questions, and offer tips and information on improving your health.

I’m extremely committed to creating a safe and open space for women to share their journeys. We all rise together when we share!

You recently decided to dedicate a part of your massage therapy practice to aiding women with symptoms of pre-natal anxiety and postpartum depression. What inspired this choice?

Before my first daughter was born, I had two losses. So that pregnancy was full of anxiety and disconnection, and then I moved into postpartum depression (PPD) after my daughter’s birth.

My PPD showed itself as anger, so everyone just thought I was super moody and would get angry back at me. Finally, someone stepped in and said that they thought something bigger than Baby Blues was going on, and that’s when I started to come out from the fog and realize just how much I was suffering, and that I needed help. This is really what moved me towards wanting to help mothers thrive in all aspects of postpartum life: physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.

What are some common misconceptions about early motherhood and postpartum depression? The latter seems to be a bit of a social taboo, and so many women out there are in need of support.

I think the biggest thing with postpartum motherhood is that everyone expects you to be happy because you have a baby, and that’s simply not true. It is an overwhelming experience for many, and there just aren’t many avenues of support in place, so women push through as best as they can, until they can’t.

You don’t have to love every part of being a mom; there are parts that are really a challenge and it’s okay to not like it sometimes. It’s okay to not want to spend every moment with your child, and it’s actually healthier for you to have time apart.

I think we should shift from baby showers filled with the latest and greatest gifts, and instead try and support with food delivery or cleaning services–things that help make the transition of being home with a baby easier.

What sort of approach do you take in your one-on-one sessions?

My goal is creating a safe and compassionate space. Always. I really want this time to be about what is needed to help a woman feel grounded and more capable of meeting the demands of life once she leaves.

Depending on what is needed, it may be just a hands-on treatment. We may focus on mindful techniques with breathing or movements, and  approaches to help stimulate or calm how she’s feeling.

Is there anything else we should know about you?

As a way to tap into the more spiritual side, I recently added Angle and Oracle Card Readings. I have found it is such a great way to offer insight and clarity in a way that is positive and motivating.
