Lifestyle: happy living in Canada, designing and busy with family

What’s a typical day like for you?  A typical day is to accomplish the most that I can: samples, production to be ready for delivery into the stores, connecting with people and organizing stuff for the next day.  Between all that is a small dog running around chasing  paper in the studio, my family is missing me from overseas and trying to get hold of me over Skype at the most inconvenient times.  Multitasking is important as time is precious, because when the day is done computer is my best friend in the evening with sleeping family members beside me, exhausted from working all day.

What in your life is really important to you?  My health and my family

What would you like to be remembered for? For having been a good person that had a positive influence on others.

Fresh Collective Style Profile – Laura Spink

I became a fan of Laura’s band The Young Novelists after seeing them share the stage with the band my husband plays in (Ron Hawkins and the Do Good Assassins).   Their music is great (check it out!) and following their activity on Facebook I could see they were travelling a lot and playing lots of gigs all over the place.  What I didn’t know until I got to know her better was that Laura also is a mom and has a full time career as a scientist!  Let’s learn a little more about this fabulous busy, inspiring and accomplished lady!  – Laura-Jean, CEO and Founder of Fresh Collective

Name: Laura Spink
Occupation: Vocalist and percussionist in Toronto-based folk-rock band The Young Novelists and hydrogeologist with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change
Age: A good age.
Lifestyle: So busy! But in a good way! I dress pretty casually during the day, but when I perform I dress up.

PSX_20141020_184102

Top: Erika – Mandala Design $78
Skirt: Jupiter – Annie 50 $145
Shoes – Lonna Mary Jane – Hush Puppies $100

What’s a typical day like for you?

I’m so not a morning person, so on a typical weekday when I’m not playing a gig, I force myself out of bed, have a quick shower, throw on something work appropriate, kiss my husband and son goodbye and dash out the door to catch the bus to my day job downtown. After work I come home and spend time with my son until his bedtime around eight. Then depending on the night, I’ll either have rehearsal, hunker down in front of the computer and do administrative band things (endless emails, social media stuff, graphic design), or go out to see live music and catch up with friends. There is so much live music going on on any given night in Toronto; it’s really quite amazing!

Top: Yasmine Louis $55
Jeans: Yoga Jean (High Rise Skinny) $120

What in your life is really important to you?

Spending time with my four year old son Simon is the most precious thing. He is the most amazing person I know. But it’s also important to my husband and I that Simon sees his parents do what they love doing, which means that sometimes we’re away from home playing music (and our he gets to hang out with his grandparents). It’s a balance and we’re always reassessing how to make it work so we’re all happy.

What role does fashion play in your life?

Honestly, I feel somewhat overwhelmed by fashion a lot of the time. I know what I like on other people, but I feel totally overwhelmed when I go shopping for clothes. I’m a lot more confident when it comes to the dresses I perform in though. When I was in grade nine, my grandmother let my sister and I raid her closet, since then I’ve always loved that 50s and 60s vibe. When I play I generally wear one of my grandmother’s dresses or a vintage inspired dress from one of the independent clothing shops around town. Dressing up helps put me in a different headspace.

PSX_20141020_184035

Dress: Jayne Retro Shirt Dress – Mandala Design $138
Shoes: Adah ankle boots – Miz Mooz $210 (now on sale for $168)

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective?

The folks who work there are so great at helping style challenged people like me put together an outfit. Plus the clothes they carry are mostly independent Canadian designers, which I love.

What do you have that you want to promote?

The Young Novelists are playing a residency at the Cameron House (408 Queen St West) from 8-10pm every Monday in November (3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th). We’re also putting the finishing touches on our new album, which will be release in the Spring, and we’re planning a big old party to celebrate!

Is there anything else we should know about you?

I was a pretty good triple jumper and 200 metre sprinter back in high-school.

Fresh Collective Style Profile – Sonia Shklarov

I met Sonia through Evan Malach, who is the creator of the play, “A Simple Twist of Fate” where she plays The Fiddler.  I met Evan because I was driving up Augusta Avenue in Kensington Market one day and I saw a wallet that looked freshly dropped.  I pulled over and picked it up, did a little googling and tracked down its owner who was Evan.  We chatted and he told me about the play, which is being put on in a gorgeous synagogue just down the street from the store, so we thought it was a great connection to promote his play on the Fresh Collective Style Profile.  Sonia was a delight to work with, and everything she put on looked great!  It was hard to narrow it down to just 3 outfits to showcase!

– Laura-Jean Bernhardson, CEO and founder, Fresh Collective

 Name: Sonia Shklarov

Occupation: Violinist

Age: 27

Lifestyle: active

Sonia’s petite and fit frame suits this dress that shows off her legs and shoulders. We added a silk scarf tied as a belt - in a rosette style no less!- to show how this dress can be dressed up, but it’s equally great with flat sandals for a casual walk in the park on a sunny afternoon.

What’s a typical day like for you? I like to make my days a balance of work, fitness, and socializing / community engagement. The summer is the best time to do all three! As a freelance violinist, I’m in charge of my own schedule – but that doesn’t mean I don’t have the responsibility to do a certain amount of work each day. If the night isn’t too late (sometimes I don’t get home ‘til 12 or 1am after a concert), I wake up before 8 and go for some type of workout. If there’s time, I try to squeeze in a short meditation before getting on with my day! Then, I love to head to a cafe for some social networking – work e-mails, business calls, updating social media sites, etc. These things are a huge part of my life as I’m constantly expanding my professional network, which is essential for a freelancer. After lunch is when I get the bulk of my work done: practicing violin, going to rehearsals, editing new musical ideas, and the occasional meeting. This is when I feel the most inspired and productive! In the evenings, I either go to a concert (my own, or a colleague’s), or out with friends – though during very busy music seasons, more practicing and rehearsals. Of course, all of this can change in a heartbeat during orchestra season (September to May) – days become packed with rehearsals, traveling, and more practice!

What in your life is really important to you? Music – namely, violin, staying in shape musically, keeping all parts of my work balanced. Also, learning – musical, spiritual, social. Also, I’ve been blessed with an amazing circle of family and friends, which is an element I intend to cherish and maintain – the people closest to me make me happy and I would do anything to make them happy in return.

What would you like to be remembered for? My smile, my energy, and shining a light into any one person’s life.

Style Coach Notes: This is the more dramatic of the looks we chose for Sonia, and thought this dress would be good for an opening night party of the play or for interviews from the media. While it makes a statement, it’s comfortable and flowy for dancing the night away. We kept the accessories simple with a delicate brass bird necklace and red bead earrings.

What role does fashion play in your life? Well, I hardly thought about it until I moved to Toronto in August 2012! Recently, fashion has really changed for me – expectations are different, and people here are more fashion-conscious than they are anywhere I’ve lived in my adult life. As a woman, I feel like my outfit says a lot about me – simple, confident; or sophisticated; complex, casual, or high-maintenance. I think it’s a power to effect how people perceive you – like it or not, it’s the first impression people get! It’s been a bit of an experimenting trip for me.

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective? I love how the salespeople are so friendly and helpful! All the colours of the outfits are amazing, and they really bring out the character of the person wearing them – as well as encourage us to take risks; try something new that perhaps we didn’t consider before. The dresses are great for many occasionals and are super comfortable – definitely on my list of stores to return to very soon!

Style Coach Notes:This is a simple and pretty look for Sonia. The rich colour looks stunning on her and the cut skims her curves without hugging tight anywhere. The fabric is light and airy, and this is a perfect summer dress for a wedding or event. It can be worn so many ways: for example belted or not, with a variety of scarves, with a blazer, wrap or shrug. A dress like this is a blank canvas for your accessories. For this look, we tied the black in the shoes together with the black in the scarf - simple, easy and looks great!

What are you up to these days? My music, to add a spark to any occasion, or give special concerts! I’m classically-trained, so lots of my work is with classical music – Bach, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Brahms .. but I love touching the community through other musical styles, such as Klezmer, traditional Jewish tunes that people haven’t heard in years, movie music from the 30’s, the Beatles, contemporary popular songs, and that’s just scratching the surface. This July, I’m involved in a musical production for the Fringe Festival, called A Simple Twist of Faith – please check out the details below!

This summer, the Kiever Shul, a synagogue in the heart of Kensington Market, will be home to one of the most compelling new shows at the Toronto Fringe Festival. A Simple Twist of Faith is a heartfelt musical that tells the story of a Jewish American soldier during World War One whose experience in a German synagogue changes the course of his life. Audiences are treated to a mobile experience through the historic Kiever Shul in this innovative piece of Site-Specific theatre. The musical features some of Toronto’s finest musicians and shares an unforgettable story not to be missed. Just in time for the beginning of the hundredth anniversary of The Great War, this is a must-see Fringe show that will uplift and inspire.

*Sonia will be playing the role of the fiddler, a mystical pied piper type who leads audiences around and through the historic building with her captivating violin playing. Any patrons who come see the show, visit the merchandise table, say you came because of Fresh Collective Style Blog and receive the Official Cast Recording of the show at a discount.

Style Profile – Tammy Gunn

I met Tammy for the first time at a course I was taking, and immediately fell in love with her energy and zest for life.  She is amazing, inspiring and fun to be around.  I figured she’d be a perfect model for Fresh Collective, as her whole way of being embodies what Fresh Collective is all about, and as you can see from the pictures, she did an amazing job!  – Laura-Jean Bernhardson, Founder and CEO of Fresh Collective

Age: 37
Lifestyle:  Healthy/Adventure

Dress: Julie dress – Bionic, $99 (leopard)
Shoes: Ellie shoes – Miz Mooz, $ 155

Style Coach notes: Tammy LOVED this sassy little leopard number that fits and flatters in all the right places.  A perfect dress for date night, this also works for those occasions that she needs a business casual look.  With a tank or camisole under to tone down the low neck, and a cardigan or fitted blazer over, this look is perfect for teaching or an office environment.

What’s a typical day like for you? I fitness dance for about 5 hours a day!

What in your life is really important to you? Family/Fitness/Friends

What role does fashion play in your life? Gotta be funky and fun ‘cuz that is who I am!

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective?  Since being in the fitness industry for quite some time and aging along the way, I lost touch with what my “out of fitness clothes look” looked like.  I have been uncomfortable in putting on anything other than fitness gear.  What I love about shopping at Fresh Collective is the experience of the people working there along with the clothes.  Feeling comfortable enough to share with them how I have been feeling and to let them in on my personality had them support me in picking things out I never would have tried on but once I was wearing them….I never wanted to take them off! The clothes are comfortable, fashionable and the staff just make easy to have fun and find your groove and style. They listen.  Makes me want to dress up more often knowing there is awesome clothes out there for me!

Dress: Venice dress – Studio Fresh, $169
Shoes: Ellie shoes – Miz Mooz, $155

Style coach notes: Many women don’t wear dresses and get stuck in a jeans and tee shirt rut because their lifestyle is casual, but a dress like this is even more comfortable and actually takes less effort to get ready for the day!  With a dress there is only one decision to make!

What do you have that you want to promote?   I am all about empowering women to have fun and have a great workout. Everyone should be able to feel great and have fun doing it.  That’s what my Zumba and Laughter Yoga classes are all about: empowering women to love every minute of their lives!   I want to promote my company and my classes: WWW.LIVEOUTLOUDMOVEMENT.COM.

Dress: Drape 14 dress – Studio Fresh $179
Shoes: Ellie shoes – Miz Mooz, $ 155

Style Coach notes:  Aside from her fitness career, Tammy is a part-time Course Supervisor in a personal and professional training and development company.  She needs business casual clothes that still suit her personality for that role, and we had a lot of fun finding dresses that were comfortable, stylish, polished and professional, but still very “Tammy”!

Is there anything else we should know about you?  I am super happy to be a part of this!  I also work in schools as well as empowering young women to love fitness!

Top: Long sleeve batwing Tee – Yasmine Louis, $ 55
Jeans: High Rise Ankle Jeans, Yoga Jeans by Second Denim, $ 115
Necklace: Myka Jewellery, $199
Bracelet: Myka Jewellery, $ 189

Style coach notes: Tammy’s lifestyle is very casual, yet these orange jeans and fashionable tee-shirt, as well as the great shoes and jewellery elevate a casual and comfortable outfit to one that stands out and is stylish too.

Style Profile – Mandy Armstrong

Mandy Armstrong is the designer behind our best selling line, Mandala Design.  Women love her clothes because they fit and look fantastic and because they are just the right mix of retro fun and wearable chic.  Mandy has been selling her line with us since the early days of both Mandala Design and Fresh Collective, and her line’s success has been a huge part of our success.  She is an excellent designer, a smart businesswoman and a genuine pleasure to do business with.  I have learned a lot from watching how she runs her business, and I look forward to building many more stores for her to sell her line in!  – Laura-Jean Bernhardson, Founder and CEO of Fresh Collective

Name: Mandy Armstrong
Occupation: Clothing Designer
Age: Let’s just say that I remember the 80’s too well to consider it vintage.

Lifestyle: A work in progress.  While I’d be quite content to hole up and work most of the time, I also want to get out into the world and see what’s going on.  Visit new places, try new food, experience new adventures.  I know I’m a bit too introverted for my own good, but I’m working on it!

scaled_image (6)

This really is Mandy’s motorcycle and how she gets around town. She often brings Fresh Collective new deliveries of dresses on her bike!
Dress: Lila dress – Mandala Design, $ 158
Shoes: Ellie shoes – Miz Mooz, $ 155

Style Coach notes:  With Mandy’s dark hair and light complexion, strong colours look best on her.  This dress is a great alternative to Mandy’s typical studio look of jeans and a tee-shirt, and would be perfect for an interview with a magazine, to meet a client or for date night with her hubby.

What’s a typical day like for you?  Wake up, get dressed, get on the computer to ‘work’.  Spend way too much time looking at funny animal videos.  Walk around the corner to my studio.  I love what I do and can’t imagine doing anything else! Go home for lunch, walk our dog, Tristan.  Back to the studio.  Sing along (badly) to songs from my youth.  Go home, walk dog, make dinner, ‘work’ – in this case it usually means research and development which is code for reading a book or magazine, watching TV or a movie or visiting the local pub for a pint.  Who knows where that next spark of inspiration will come from, right?!

What in your life is really important to you?  Family and creating pretty things.

What would you like to be remembered for?  There’s no way to answer this question without sounding cheesy so here goes… I’d like to be remembered as someone who made clothing that made women feel good about themselves.  I’d also like to learn to be the best knife thrower ever.  I should probably get started on that.

scaled_image (4)

Dress: Iris dress – Mandala Design, $ 158
Shoes: Pepper shoes – Miz Mooz, $ 150
Bracelets: Myka, $169 each

Style Coach notes:  We chose the shoes because the black borders echo the borders on the dress, and the bracelets dress this look up enough to go to a summer wedding.  This dress has just enough shape to skim a woman’s curves and not so much that it clings or restricts.

What role does fashion play in your life?  Huge. Not because I always dress well (I’m huddled away at the studio most days in jeans and tees – don’t ever let anyone tell you that the clothing industry is glamorous – it ain’t), but because it’s what I love.  Ever since I can remember I’ve loved clothes.  I love the fabric, the buttons, the details, the construction.  I especially love vintage clothes, the stories they tell and the ones I make up for them.

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective?  I’ve been a part of the Collective for so long and it’s such a big part of my business.  Shopping there is always a joy!  I’m so amazed at the creativity that can be found right here in our very own city.  It’s been a fabulous experience getting to know the staff and other designers and sharing in everyone’s successes.  I’m at the shops almost every week and it’s a real struggle not to succumb to the urge to buy something EVERY TIME!

scaled_image (9)

Top: Ronda linen slouch top – Mandala Design, $ 64
Pants: Val snake capri pants – Mandala Design, $ 124
Shoes: Athena Shoes – Miz Mooz, $ 145
Necklace: Ch-ch-chains bracelet with extender- BurfurART, $65 plus $18 (for extender)

Style Coach notes: This slouchy linen tee is a great with these awesome snake print pants.  The top is neutral, sophisticated and tones down the va-va-voom factor of the pants.  As well, the loose fit on top works as a contrast to the slim fit on the bottom.  We completed the look with a bold chain necklace because, well, it just worked.

What do you have that you want to promote?  One of the things that has been in the forefront of my mind these past several years is the state of the clothing industry – both overseas and right here in Canada.  While I’m proud to promote the fact that all of Mandala’s clothing is made right here in Toronto, as a consumer I feel it’s my obligation to support the brands and companies that are making a real effort to curb the bad practices used by some larger corporations.  Shopping local and knowing where an item comes from are just a couple of ways that I’m striving to change my purchasing habits.  I think that we are becoming much more aware of the conditions that workers endure and I’m hoping that with increased pressure, we can look forward to a day when all employees both here and abroad can enjoy a living wage in safe conditions.

Is there anything else we should know about you?  We recently adopted one of the cutest rescue dogs in the world (that would be Tristan), I have a 17 (almost 18, yikes!) year old son, I ride a kick-ass cherry-red Suzuki VS800 Intruder motorcycle and my favourite colour is green.

Style Profile – Kathleen “The Dancing Crossing Guard” Byers

I am very lucky in that I have lived next door to Kathleen Byers for close to a decade. Before she became famous as The Dancing Crossing Guard, Kathleen to me was an AMAZING woman who greets each day with energy and enthusiasm and just adds joy into any relationship and any conversation.  She has become a huge part of people’s day in our neighbourhood at her crossing, dancing and spreading joy three times a day every weekday while ensuring kids cross the street safely.  While we don’t know what the future holds for Kathleen’s position as a crossing guard, I know that whatever she does it will inspire people and add a major contribution to many people’s lives.  To see Kathleen’s extensive press coverage, click here.”  – Laura-Jean Bernhardson, Founder and CEO of Fresh Collective

Style Coach notes:  Kathleen LOVES colour and pattern, so we chose bold pieces for her to model.  This dress is flattering to any figure with the nipped in waist and full skirt, and comfortable enough for any occasion.  And, oh, need I say it…. pockets?  We LOVE pockets in dresses!

What’s a typical day like for you? Relaxing every morning with my sweetheart and a cup o’ Java!  After that it’s all about choosing the colours I’ll be wearing that day. I choose my outfits by the way I feel, rain or shine!  I love colour, it energizes me! As a Crossing Guard I stay quite active by moving around to a good beat!

Some have called me The Dancing Crossing Guard, I call it my Diabetes Prevention Program! It’s rhythmic aerobic exercise four hours everyday which I do while safely crossing children to school.  I have two breaks everyday which I use for eating and resting. This makes for a very full day, since I start about 8am and finish at 4pm.  I am blessed to live, work, and play in my own community.

scaled_image (1)

Dress: Lana Shatter Slash Shift Dress – Mandala Design, $138
Shoes: Pepper – Miz Mooz, $150

Style Coach Notes:  More bold prints and colours for Kathleen.  Aside from her vibrant personality, Kathleen looks fantastic in rich colours because of her skin tone and hair.  This dress skims Kathleen’s curves without hugging too tight, and the keyhole neckline adds a bit of fun without being too revealing.  This would be a great dress for a summer dinner on a patio with Kathleen’s hubby, Jim.

What in your life is really important to you?  Belonging is very important for me.  A friendly wave from a neighbour, a nod or smile, really it’s the simple things in life that matter the most.  I love to laugh everyday!

scaled_image (2)

Dress: Dandelion dress – Desserts and Skirts, $125
Bracelet: Ch-ch-chains – BurfurtART $65

What would you like to be remembered for? Fun!  I used to say, “Have fun everyday, why not have fun all the time!”

PhotoGrid_1400773009851

Dress: Amy dress – Michelle Carey, $198
Earrings: Curious Oddities, $18
Shoes: Kathleen’s own

Style Coach Notes:  For Kathleen, her family is most important, and with all those people to love in her life, there’s no end to the birthday parties and anniversaries she is going to. This dress is a great versatile piece and is perfect for all kinds of fun summer occasions. The dots are perfect for Kathleen’s personality, and the shape is so flattering with the band at the waist, gathered bust and full skirt.  This dress creates an awesome hourglass silhouette for a wide variety of figures.  I have to add that at the beginning of the photo shoot, Kathleen was a bit reserved in her poses.  By the end, she was strutting her stuff, dancing, laughing and posing like a supermodel.

What role does fashion play in your life?  Fashion for me has always been about running gear or jeans and tops.  I never wear dresses or skirts or anything that girly or feminine.  That is, not until today when I saw the great designs and collections at Fresh Collective.

What do you love about Fresh Collective?  I loved the beautiful prints full of colour and great style.  I loved the pockets, yes pockets!

What do you have that you want to promote? I am available for a new career in modelling, “Great-Grandma Fashionista!”

Is there anything else we should know about you? I once got three strikes in a row – bowling!

Style Profile – Kit Boulter

I first met Kit back in February at our Diane Kroe launch party.  Her sense of style and her outgoing personality made made for the perfect combo for a fun evening.

Kit and I met through her friend and loyal Fresh Collective customer Pip who brought her to the party.

Kit fell in love with the new Destination Dress by Diane Kroe and requested it be made for her in green to go with her new pink Miz Mooz shoes.  She refers to this outfit as her “watermelon” outfit.  I knew from that moment on she and I would get along just fine.

Whether it be in the store or our frequent meetings on the subway or streetcar, an encounter with Kit always brightens my day.  I look forward to many more special moments with a wonderful lady!

Dress: Destination Dress in Emerald – Diane Kroe $225
Necklace: Curious Oddities – $ 28
Shoes: Miz Mooz – Kit’s own, past season

Style Coach Notes: This is the dress Kit ordered from Diane Kroe at the launch party.  This colour is great with her vivacious personality and the fit shows off how fun and playful she is.  I remember her calling this her “watermelon outfit” because she had the perfect pair of shoes to go with it. The whole look makes her shine like the star she is.

What’s a typical day like for you? Depending on what projects I have on the go, I get to wake up and usually enjoy a nice morning before heading out to a rehearsal.  However, I have to be comfortable enough to then switch into nanny-mode after school, where I tutor and cook – I wear an apron if anything is going to get too messy.  If I’m not working with the kids, I’ve also taken on jobs in the theatre working with costuming and props. I love helping shows come together, even if I’m not performing onstage. I’ve been kept busy on weekends with cabarets, show times and trying to keep up with my super-talented friends.

What in your life is really important to you? I love my wife, my cat and my family, and a lot of what I do is to support them and make them proud of me. Oh, and shoes.

Skirt: Sarah Flip Skirt – Mandala Design $78
Necklace: Curious Oddities $28
Shoes: Pepper – Miz Mooz $150

Style Coach Notes: This outfit takes comfy clothes to a whole new level.  When Kit is relaxing at home with her wife this is the perfect way to still look good and feel comfortable without going to those trusty sweat pants.  The bold print of the skirt keeps in theme with her personality and she can easily toss on her Miz Mooz shoes and head out for drinks with friends.

What would you like to be remembered for? I’d like to be remembered as a strong, classy woman. I’m not afraid to speak my mind and would like to be known for standing up for people who haven’t got a voice and for living what I believe in.

What role does fashion play in your life? I dress for myself, and love that feeling of stepping out in something that makes me feel confident and fresh. I love colour, and mixing modern accents with classic silhouettes and designs.

Dress: Drape Dress – Rita DiCesare $169
Shoes: Pepper- Miz Mooz $150

Style Coach Notes: Every girl needs a dress that they can feel comfortable and fun in, and this dress was perfect for Kit.  The print was just the right amount of fun to go with her personality and the dress is great for her life on the go!  She can throw it on and head to an audition and head home and relax and still look and feel fabulous.

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective? I love finding signature pieces there–the dress that you can do no wrong in; the shoes that hug your feet; the belt that everyone notices. There’s always something eye-catching and intriguing to find.

Dress: Suki Dress- Studio Fresh $179
Shoes Elly – Miz Mooz $155

Style Coach Notes: Stunning, just stunning in this dress!  This dress is great for Kit; it’s dressy and commands attention.  Kit has paired it with her own patterned tights which give the dress a little more drama and she’s ready for a night out on the town or to accept an academy award! This dress can easily go from day to night and matches her outgoing and creative personality. I love that Kit’s not afraid to take risks and mix up two different patterns!

What do you have that you want to promote?  I’m trading my stilettos for sideburns in the Lower Ossington’s production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch playing till May 24th.  I’m so excited to be part of this rock and roll classic that deals with gender identity , sexuality and discovering personal freedom.

Special thanks to Sweetpeas, our neighbour on Roncesvalles Avenue for allowing us to shoot in their gorgeous, sun-drenched flower and gift shop.

What’s a typical day like for you? None of my days are typical. If I’m not meeting with new designers, I’m organizing media opportunities or special partnerships for Fresh Collective, following up on emails and reviewing our social media conversations. I’m at fashion shows, networking events, or budget meetings. In the evenings, my schedule has some continuity. Sunday/Monday/Tuesday nights I can be found on my roller skates at the Bunker (home of Toronto Roller Derby) teaching our fresh meat or skating with CN Power, the Toronto All Star Team. Thursdays is a catch up on work night, and Friday/Saturday is date night with my hunky boyfriend.

What in your life is really important to you? My babe-a-licious boyfriend, my friends, my family and my teammates – at FC and in roller derby.

What would you like to be remembered for? I would like to be remembered for making a difference, and for being a stand for women around the world to find their power, create lives they love and become who they want to be!

What role does fashion play in your life? Fashion is my life! I spend my mornings on the TTC secretly looking at what women are wearing. Are they a FC customer? Do I think they would like the line I just looked at yesterday? Right now, I’m analyzing women’s winter boots. I find women in Toronto wear either a fashion boot (a stylish boot) or, they have on real, hard core winter boots with fluff out the top, like NO sign of winter is going to get into those boots. LOL. Looking at what they’re wearing and how they’re wearing it helps me to get clear about what kind of product we should be carrying at Fresh Collective.

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective? I love our designers. I LOVE our designers. They are so creative and make beautiful pieces for women who live busy lives. They make quality pieces that build wardrobes. I am so lucky to be surrounded by all of this talent and have the wondrous fortune that these creative people trust me to help them reach the next level. I am inspired and honoured by this trust!

What do you have that you want to promote? I want to promote that we at Fresh Collective are always on the lookout for new, hot Canadian designers. If you are a Canadian designer and would like to have your line carried at Fresh Collective, please go to this link and complete our designer application. And of course I want to promote my love for Toronto Roller Derby. My team, CN Power will be playing March 22/23 in a huge tournament hosted right here in Toronto. You can find all the details about our games and get tickets at www.torontorollerderby.com

Is there anything else we should know about you? I have a mean knock out and draw back (come see roller derby if you want to know what that means!).
