Fresh Collective Style Profile – Katherine O’Neil

Name:  Katherine O’Neil
Occupation: Mom, wife and National Vice President & Ind. Consultant with Arbonne Intl.
Age: 42, but who’s counting?
Lifestyle:  Play dates, business meetings, beach time and lots of laughter

Dress: Lexi dress – Studio Fresh $189
Necklace: Curious Oddities $28
Bracelet: Love Montreal $30
Boots: Katherine’s own

What’s a typical day like for you?  Up, down and all around!  All kidding aside, life with 2 kids under 8, a business to run, a household to manage and making room for me time can lead to some crazy days.  That said, being your own boss also means you get to take days off and vacation whenever you want 🙂  Probably my most stressful time is between 7:30 and 8:30 am trying to get everyone out the door.   Tack on a workout (need to be more consistent with that one!), a business lunch, catching up on emails, and shuttling kids to an extra-curricular activity.

That said I always make time for a cup of tea on the couch and just zen out for a bit and take in my surroundings.  Right now I love staring at the lights on the Christmas tree with a cat curled up on my lap.

Top: Lexi top – Studio Fresh $135
Jeans: Second Denim $138 (now 20% off)
Bracelets: Ch-ch-ch-chains – BurfurtART $45
Boots: Katherine’s own

What in your life is really important to you?  I have so many things to be grateful for but the most important thing to me is my family.  My kids amaze me in the joy and wonder they see in the simple things and my husband keeps me grounded but also laughing all the time.  Together we’re a pretty amazing team if I say so myself 🙂   I’m also a bit of a foodie so I’d be remiss not to mention fabulous meals amongst friends.  Breaking bread with great conversation over an incredible bottle of wine is one of life’s guilty pleasures.

What would you like to be remembered for?   As someone who took risks and went after the unrealistic dreams, helped bring out the best in people, and laughed… a lot.  As my friends know, I want to leave it all on the dance floor.

Sweater: Cordofolio Cardigan – Jennifer Fukushima $269
Skirt: Jess denim flocked skirt – Mandala Design $98
Necklace: girliepearlies – BurfurtART $56
Bracelet: Love Montreal $30
Boots: Katherine’s own

What role does fashion play in your life?  It’s fun and functional.  Fashion is something that can comfort you with a cozy sweater and boots one minute (I love the fall for that) and make you feel like Scarlett O’Hara ready to take on the world the next.  I think the older you get the more confidence you have because you know what works on your body.  On the flip side, confidence also comes from within and knowing who you are and it allows you to take more risks be it a bold colour or just a really different cut.

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective?  Everything!  Every time I go in there are so many things that catch my eye.  Everything has a cool indie vibe but is also easy to mix and match with something new or what is already in your closet.  The fits are fantastic and super flattering, not to mention everything feels as if you’re wearing pyjamas. How they do that I have no idea!   The staff are knowledgable and fun and you can’t help but walk out with an outfit that makes you feel like a million bucks – the best is that you’re supporting local, socially-conscious talent.

What do you have that you want to promote?  I’m pretty passionate about helping people realize their full potential and really figuring out what they want in life.  Coming from the corporate world where I had a very successful career in Communications, I never thought I would find myself in an industry that was so outside my comfort zone but like so many people today, I was searching for more time and more choices.  That said, starting an Arbonne business was the best decision I ever made.   I’d never experienced a company culture like this before, where you are truly valued and recognized, and the calibre of people is top notch.  While the products and income are phenomenal, working with and watching people take risks, learn, and become the best versions of themselves is really what it’s all about.   This business is all about paying it forward – the ultimate win/win.  I think we could use a lot more of that in the world today.

Is there anything else we should know about you?  I’ve got a huge bucket list of things including ballroom dance lessons.  2015 might be the year to start working on that cha cha with my husband!

Fresh Collective Style Profile – Yvonne Bambrick

Top: Slouch tee – Yasmine Louise $65
Jeans: Yoga Jeans – Second Denim $120
Necklace: girliepearlies – BurfurtART $46

Name: Yvonne Bambrick
Occupation: Urban Cycling Consultant, Photographer, Coordinator of the Forest Hill Village BIA
Age: 38

What’s a typical day like for you?

There’s nothing typical about my days. I’ve got such a wide variety of things that come up from week to week – from a photo shoot across town, to a meeting in a local cafe, emails (always and throughout the day), helping a relative get to a Dr.’s appointment, site-meetings, glass of wine in the market, an evening lecture… I’m regularly amazed at just how much can fit into a day, but I have no doubt that I would never be able to get as much done without my trusty bicycle. Predictable travel times and no traffic – works for me!

What in your life is really important to you?

Friends, family, my bicycle and my camera – in whatever order best suits my daily schedule

Coat: Sacha – Soia and Kyo $445
Sweater: Apiomorphic tunic – Jennifer Fukushima $199
Necklace: girliepearlies – BurfurtART $48
Jeans: Yoga Jeans – Second Denim $120

What would you like to be remembered for?

I’d love to be remembered for the contributions I’ll continue to make to the livability and enjoyment of my hometown Toronto, and for being a fiercely loyal and reliable friend.

What role does fashion play in your life?

Fashion trends aren’t something I follow, but I like to look well put together while also being practically dressed for riding a bike everywhere. I have my own style that evolves with the pieces that come my way via clothing swaps, or that I find of occasional shopping excursions with my style icon, and dearest buddy, Melanie.

Dress: Mona Dress – Studio Fresh – $189

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective?

I try to buy locally made everything and can always count on Fresh Collective to have beautiful, flattering clothes that won’t go out of style, whatever that means 😉

What do you have that you want to promote?

I just wrote a book about how to ride a bicycle in the city and I’d love to get it into as many hands as possible! Although this book is aimed at new and would-be riders, there’s plenty of useful information in it for people who are already comfortable on the roads. The Urban Cycling Survival Guide comes out in March 2015, but you can pre-order it online (see link below!).  Better yet, why not ask your local bookstore if they plan to carry it! A great gift for any bike-lovers on your holiday gift list 😉

Is there anything else we should know about you?

I’m a long time volunteer in Kensington Market and am one of the co-creators of Pedestrian Sundays which just wrapped the 11th season of car-free community events!

If you’re looking for someone to photograph your upcoming holiday party, conference or headshot, I’m your gal. Some of my work can be found here.

Fresh Collective Style Profile- Carrianne Leung

Name: Carrianne Leung
Occupation: Educator, Writer, Business Owner, Mother. In other words, very occupied.
Age: 47. Loud and proud.
Lifestyle: Frenetic fun.

Dress: Brinn Houndstooth Dress – Mandala Design $138
Shoes: Lonna Mary Jane – $100

What’s a typical day like for you? If I can get my kid and myself out the door in time, both of us clean, dressed, fed and with lunch in hand by 8:45 AM, then the hardest part of the day is over.

What in your life is really important to you? Family. Friends. Social justice. Inspiration. Books.

What would you like to be remembered for? Generosity.

What role does fashion play in your life? I have always loved fashion. I grew up in the 80s with the likes of Cyndi Lauper as a style influence, so I appreciate a particular whimsy in clothes. I was also a Goth for 5 minutes in the 90s and will always have a love for the melancholic fashion statement. In other words, I have range.

Dress: Lexi Sweater Dress – Studio Fresh $189
Necklace: Curious Oddities – $48
Shoes: Lonna Mary Jane – Hush Puppies $100

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective?  Where do I start? I am sure that at least half of my wardrobe comes from Fresh Collective designers. Being a 40 something woman who must juggle multiple roles – I work with OCAD U cool kids, I co-own an organic grocery store, I have a 7-year old kid. I’m a writer and do readings – the pieces that I get from Fresh are able to transfer into all these scenes.  I love the colour, the prints, the amazing cuts and shapes of the clothes and how well they are made.  They are also classic in an unconventional sense – they outlast the other 5-minute trends in fashion and still come off as very current years after purchase. I also love that they are made and designed in Canada.

Top: Erika Comfort Jersey Tee – Mandala Design $78
Dress: Stella Panel Jumper – Mandala Desgn $168
Bracelet: Ch-ch-ch- chains – BurfurtART $45
Shoes: Lonna Mary Jane – Hush Puppies $100

What do you have that you want to promote?  I launched my novel The Wondrous Woo last fall, and it’s been a wonderful year, culminating to being shortlisted for the Toronto Book Awards. A second novel is in the works! Also, please shop at Multiple Organics, the specialty grocery store that I co-own with Nupur Gogia. We are “fresh”, too!

Is there anything else we should know about you? My superhero power is that I can sleep – anytime, anywhere.

Where can people find you on social media? I am on twitter and facebook!

Fresh Collective Style Profile – Pip Bradford

Pip Bradford has been a superfan of Fresh Collective for a few years now, and we adore her.  We adore her so much, in fact, that we used a picture of her for a document we created to describe our target market to educate new designers who join us what kind of woman shops at Fresh Collective!  When she was at our Kensington location for her Style Profile shoot, she took over the store and sold things to other customers as I just watched!  She’s fun, funny and totally awesome.

~Laura-Jean, CEO and founder of Fresh Collective

Name: Pip Bradford
Occupation: Theatre Production
Age: 31
Lifestyle: I go where the sea takes me.

Dress: Dania Tunic – Desserts and Skirts $125
Necklace: Curious Oddities $26
Boots: Erika Lonna Boot – Hush Puppies $150
Tights: Pip’s own
Style Coach notes:  Pip chose and styled her own outfits for this shoot, and then bought most of what she chose, so I just stood back and watched. 😉 She chose this tunic because of its versatility (dress or top; wear it long or pull it shorter and blouse it out a bit) and comfort. It is a best seller because it just works for most women and feels amazingly soft. ~ Laura-Jean

What’s a typical day like for you?
There is no such thing.
What in your life is really important to you?
My career, my friends, and my library. Seriously I really love my library.

Dress: Mona Dress – Studio Fresh $189
Boots: Ninette – Miz Mooz $239
Style Coach notes: When Pip showed up I showed her this dress, and said, “This one has Pip written all over it!” I must have been right, as she bought it after the shoot! This dress has a great combination of fit and looseness. The band under the bust gives shape, but the skirt falls away and then balloons a bit at the bottom with some tucks. This is one of my personal faves of the season. ~ Laura-Jean

What would you like to be remembered for?
Rocking out as hard as I can, whenever I can.

What role does fashion play in your life?
I live a really full life, and I need my clothes to do everything I do, whether it be hanging lights at the top of a ladder, running a production meeting like a boss, reading comics in the corner of my favourite shop, or having drinks with my friends at my local.

Dress: April Pinch Dress – Studio Fresh $210
Shoes: Lonna Mary Jane – Hush Puppies $100
Style Coach notes: Pip has a big bold personality so a dress this dramatic is easy for her to pull off. This dress has it all – and it’s a top seller because of it. A stretchy panel across the back allows it to fit snug but comfortable, and the gathers and tucks show off your shape while not showing every detail. The asymmetrical details are a statement but nothing is too over the top in this dress. This is a great event dress. ~ Laura-Jean

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective?
Every time I go to Fresh Collective, shopping feels like an awesome, fun, group event. Not only the staff, but all the other customers, make buying clothes there feel like a real community activity, which is tons of fun!

Dress: Jersey dress – Atelier B $128
Necklace: The Simples Cluster – burfurtART $38
Shoes: Lonna Mary Jane – Hush Puppy $100
Style Coach notes: This dress works well for most women because the waitband gives a great shape, and the pleats and pockets just fall in the right place. As with so many of our pieces, it’s soft and stretchy for maximum wearability. This dress is also a great “blank canvas” piece- it can range from casual to dressy depending on the accessories. ~Laura-Jean

I met Tammy for the first time at a course I was taking, and immediately fell in love with her energy and zest for life.  She is amazing, inspiring and fun to be around.  I figured she’d be a perfect model for Fresh Collective, as her whole way of being embodies what Fresh Collective is all about, and as you can see from the pictures, she did an amazing job!  – Laura-Jean Bernhardson, Founder and CEO of Fresh Collective

What role does fashion play in your life? Gotta be funky and fun ‘cuz that is who I am!

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective?  Since being in the fitness industry for quite some time and aging along the way, I lost touch with what my “out of fitness clothes look” looked like.  I have been uncomfortable in putting on anything other than fitness gear.  What I love about shopping at Fresh Collective is the experience of the people working there along with the clothes.  Feeling comfortable enough to share with them how I have been feeling and to let them in on my personality had them support me in picking things out I never would have tried on but once I was wearing them….I never wanted to take them off! The clothes are comfortable, fashionable and the staff just make easy to have fun and find your groove and style. They listen.  Makes me want to dress up more often knowing there is awesome clothes out there for me!

Dress: Venice dress – Studio Fresh, $169
Shoes: Ellie shoes – Miz Mooz, $155

Style coach notes: Many women don’t wear dresses and get stuck in a jeans and tee shirt rut because their lifestyle is casual, but a dress like this is even more comfortable and actually takes less effort to get ready for the day!  With a dress there is only one decision to make!

What do you have that you want to promote?   I am all about empowering women to have fun and have a great workout. Everyone should be able to feel great and have fun doing it.  That’s what my Zumba and Laughter Yoga classes are all about: empowering women to love every minute of their lives!   I want to promote my company and my classes: WWW.LIVEOUTLOUDMOVEMENT.COM.

Dress: Drape 14 dress – Studio Fresh $179
Shoes: Ellie shoes – Miz Mooz, $ 155

Style Coach notes:  Aside from her fitness career, Tammy is a part-time Course Supervisor in a personal and professional training and development company.  She needs business casual clothes that still suit her personality for that role, and we had a lot of fun finding dresses that were comfortable, stylish, polished and professional, but still very “Tammy”!

Is there anything else we should know about you?  I am super happy to be a part of this!  I also work in schools as well as empowering young women to love fitness!

Style Profile – Katherine O’Neil

Katherine O’Neil and I met just over a year ago when I joined Arbonne as a consultant. Aside from my awesome career as Fresh Collective’s Regional Manager, I have my own Arbonne business and I love doing both!
From the moment I met her at our region meeting I knew I wanted to be just like her! Her energy and enthusiasm is infectious. Katherine has a way of bringing out the leader in you and making you feel so special. She is someone who I just love to spend time with as she is so inspirational.
We just had our Global Training Conference in Vegas this past week and it was my honour to help her find the perfect dress for her to lead her training in. Katherine lead a training in Vegas to over 12500 consultants so it was important that she looked the part.
– Jane Haselgrove, Regional Manager at Fresh Collective

Name:  Katherine O’Neil
Title:   Independent Consultant and National Vice President with Arbonne Intl.
Occupation:  Mom, Entrepreneur, Wealth Creation Coach, Wellness Educator
Age: 42
Lifestyle:  on the go with the appropriate dash of daily belly laughs and quarterly travel fixes – I love my passport 🙂

What’s a typical day like for you?  Mornings are the mad dash getting the kids to school, then I fit in a workout and really start my day.  The rest depends – it’s a mixed bag of coffee meetings with clients, coaching calls with my business team, volunteering at school, or reading a book on the couch in the afternoon sun with a Chai Tea.

2014-04-24 17.38.14

Dress: Kaleidoscope Dress- Mandala Design, $128
Bag: Melissa Bag by Taska, $129

Style coach notes: Katherine is vivacious and just glows with an inner beauty.  Her life is busy so comfy dresses like this one make getting dressed quick and switching gears easy.  This dress doesn’t sacrifice style though, with its bold print, fitted bodice and flirty keyhole opening at the neck.

What in your life is really important to you?  My family is everything to me.  They are the driving force behind all that I do.  My friends keep me grounded – I love how it doesn’t matter if it was two days or two years since I’ve spoken with some, there’s a connectedness that’s always there.

What would you like to be remembered for?  Having played full out and for leaving people better than how I found them.  Everyone has an invisible sign that says make me feel important.

2014-04-24 17.31.48

Dress: Destination Dress – Diane Kroe, $225
Necklace: The Simples by BurfurtART, $38

Style Coach notes: Katherine travels a lot and this convertible dress is perfect.  It can be worn several different ways from this sassy halter style to a look that’s all business.

What role does fashion play in your life?  It’s fun!  I love colour no matter the season so I use it to express my mood.   My Parisian grandmother used to always say that a woman’s best piece was  the confidence that came from within.  It’s all about how you wear the clothes and not how they wear you.  That said, there’s nothing like a flattering cut and amazing fabric that hugs you in just the right spots.   I am also a sucker for an amazing pair of boots.  Now if I can only master the different ways to tie a scarf!

Dress: Drape 14 Dress- Studio Fresh, $179
Necklace: Ch-ch-ch-chains – BurfurtART, $65

2014-04-24 17.30.12

Style Coach notes: Katherine’s confidence shines through in this artistic-looking dress with a loose fit, slouchy pockets and abstract print.  The shorter length shows off her fab legs, and works perfectly with the slouchy fit.  The proportions of this dress are just right for her figure and her lifestyle.

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective?  What’s not to love?  Everything there is unique and made to not only look but feel fabulous on you.  The colours, prints, versatility….I could go on.  As someone who loves to travel, these clothes are your suitcase’s best friend.  And I love how you can shop guilt free – home-grown, responsibly made clothing with attitude and flair.  And the people working there are fantastic – they get you to try things that you would never think of and voila, a new favourite 🙂

Dress: Hourglass dress – Obakki, $280
Necklace:The Simples by BurfurtART, $38
Shoes are her own

Style Coach notes:  Here’s a bold number that suits Katherine to a tee.  The curves of the colour blocking accentuate her figure, and wearing something this graphic gets a woman noticed as a confidence leader.

What do you have that you want to promote?   I left a successful career in the corporate world 5 years ago – something I never imagined myself doing but I was so tired of juggling between family, career and more – and am now an Independent Consultant and National Vice President with Arbonne International.  I have an incredible Health & Wellness business that has allowed me to fit my work around my family and my personal priorities and not the other way around.  I love getting to create a life by design that is full of positivity and the best is showing others how to do the same, educating people on not just their physical but financial health as well.  It’s all about creating more choices and freedom to truly leave a legacy for your loved ones, for causes that matter to you and to live in the moment with abundance. Between the friendships, fun and the growth, I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

2014-04-24 17.28.51

Top: Eliza Top – Kabuki, $128
Skirt: Eliza Skirt- Kabuki, $108

Style Profile – Pip Bradford

Those of you who have been to Roncy when Pip is in the store may have received some cookies, some fashion advice or just had a good laugh.  She is our honorary Fresh Collective employee and a pleasure to know.

I first met Pip during a Wardrobe Makeover last summer. From the moment she walked into the store exclaiming that “Pip is here!” I knew that this girl was something special.  Pip is super outgoing and not afraid to speak her mind.  She loves our store and our designers and we love Pip.  She is not afraid to try something new and loves to go outside of her comfort zone with fashion.  Her clothes always match her personality and her amazing tattoos and she just radiates happiness.

Anyone that gets to meet her instantly falls in love with her and the party really doesn’t start until Pip has arrived!  She is a woman of many talents and an absolute pleasure to be around.  I look forward to the days that I know she is coming for a visit, and when it’s a surprise it’s even better!

– Joe McKiernan; Store Leader Fresh Collective Roncesvalles

Name: Sarah “Pip” Bradford
Occupation: Production Manager/Stage Manager/Theatre Technician
Age: 31
Lifestyle: Saying one “works hard and plays hard” makes one sound like a frat boy, but there you go.

Dress: Gwen Poppy Print Dress – Mandala Design $148
Shoes: Lonna T-Bar Black – Hush Puppies $100

Style Coach Notes: Pip has a big, bold and vibrant personality so a print like this is perfect for her. This dress is also practical for her life on the go. Pockets allow her a place to tuck things, and the the easy but flattering fit allows a lot of movement for a busy gal like Pip. This dress can easily be worn in various ways- more professionally with a fitted black linen or cotton blazer or with a belted cardigan and tights in cooler weather for example.

What’s a typical day like for you?

As a freelance theatre artist, there really isn’t such a thing as a typical day. I could be organizing a bi-lingual Spanish/English festival with artists from across the Americas; rehearsing a children’s show; or installing technical elements for a different play, usually all at once. Given that I usually start work between 8 and 10am and end my night with a drink with friends as late as 11pm, I can often spend up to sixteen hours a day on the go.

What in your life is really important to you?

It can be really hard to prioritize when you have so many things happening! I’m very lucky that so many of the most important people in my life work with me often, so I don’t have to choose between my friends and my career, which I think are my big two.

My current extracurricular passions include comic books (I give the part of my paycheque that doesn’t go to Fresh Collective to The Beguiling on Markham Street), youth mentorship in the arts, and learning to do things I don’t know how to do. I just taught myself how to cook (like a grownup!), and now I’m teaching myself how to silkscreen. I love challenging myself!

Dress: Dandelion Dress – Desserts and Skirts $125
Necklace: Ch-ch-chains – BurfurtArt $57
Shoes: Lonna T-bar Tan – Hush Puppies $100

Style Coach Notes: This dress is a soft and comfy jersey- again great for a girl on the go! It looks so great Pip could attend an important meeting but she could also ride her bike there in this dress. This dress flatters most figures because of the cut. The band shows off a waistline while the skirt just flows easily over tummy and hips. And the drape of the fabric is just gorgeous.

What would you like to be remembered for?

My brains, my guts, and my ability to hold my liquor.

What role does fashion play in your life?

I have a big personality, and I look to fashion to help me express that.

With so much of my time spent on-the-go, it’s important to me that I’m always ready for anything. I mean, I could leave my house thinking I’m just going to supervise a work call for a few hours, but by the end of the day I’ve managed to also fit in a lunch meeting, a hundred errands, and a first date with an exciting new person…and in the right dress, I can do all of it!

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective?

Hanging out with Joe.

Ah, I joke! I mean, I do love Joe, but there’s so much more than that to love about shopping at Fresh Collective. The whole staff is great, and they always remember my style and have ready recommendations based on their excellent knowledge of the designers they stock. And the designers! I am locked in a years-long love affair with Mandala Designs (I cannot wait to get my hands on her summer line!), and I think I own four different versions of the Skirts and Desserts Frill Dress. There’s always something new and exciting to check out every time I go in!

Dress: Annete Dress – Studio Fresh $179
Shoes: Lonna T-Bar Black – Hush Puppies $100

Style Coach Notes: Another fantastic dress for Pip. This one is a little off-beat with the patchy fabric and awesome print. The fit is flattering and easy- a little fitted in the top and more loose and skimming in the skirt. The top is a stretch fabric which allows Pip a lot of movement and comfort for her busy life!

What do you have that you want to promote?

Okay, guys, I tried to choose just one thing, but I have to go with two, in chronological order:

I’m a huge fan of comic books and graphic novels, and the Toronto Comic Arts Festival starts TOMORROW! Comic artists from all over the world will be coming here for a whole week of fun, concluding in a two-day vendor fair and exhibition at the Toronto Reference Library on May 10th and 11th. This is my first year working with TCAF, and I’m the head volunteer for their kids’ programming at the library. There’s also TCAF Kids’ Day 2014 at St. Paul’s, a whole day of kids’ programming including author presentations from a huge roster of amazing authors and artists! ALSO, I’m presenting my first interactive installation art piece as a performer/creator in Toronto at the Toronto Fringe Festival this summer! Flip The Table will be debuting in the Fringe Club behind Honest Ed’s from July 2-13, and it’s just what it sounds like: You choose your table setting (anything from picnic to full high tea), pick a scenario you want to act out (ever want to tell your boss what you REALLY think about her?), and then you come in and flip that table! It’s about exploiting taboos, exploring freedom, and making the biggest mess you possibly can in a 10’x10’ tent. We’re still in development, but you can check out more about it at or via our Twitter @flipthefringe closer to the festival (bookmark it now, you’re not gonna want to miss this!). For info about all the fun stuff going down at Fringe this year, check out

Is there anything else we should know about you?

What, I haven’t told you enough already?

(Special thanks to our neighbours, Sweetpeas, on Roncesvalles Avenue for letting us shoot in their gorgeous flower and gift shop.

Style Profile – Kit Boulter

I first met Kit back in February at our Diane Kroe launch party.  Her sense of style and her outgoing personality made made for the perfect combo for a fun evening.

Kit and I met through her friend and loyal Fresh Collective customer Pip who brought her to the party.

Kit fell in love with the new Destination Dress by Diane Kroe and requested it be made for her in green to go with her new pink Miz Mooz shoes.  She refers to this outfit as her “watermelon” outfit.  I knew from that moment on she and I would get along just fine.

Whether it be in the store or our frequent meetings on the subway or streetcar, an encounter with Kit always brightens my day.  I look forward to many more special moments with a wonderful lady!

– Joe McKiernan; Store Leader, Fresh Collective Roncesvalles

Name: Kit Boulter
Occupation: actor, singer, Jack-of-all-trades
Age: 27
Lifestyle: busy and ever-changing from week to week. I have to be very flexible and comfortable whether I’m rushing from auditions, volunteering at schools, heading to a swim or dressing up for a night out.  I like to have a versatile wardrobe for every occasion.

Dress: Destination Dress in Emerald – Diane Kroe $225
Necklace: Curious Oddities – $ 28
Shoes: Miz Mooz – Kit’s own, past season

Style Coach Notes: This is the dress Kit ordered from Diane Kroe at the launch party.  This colour is great with her vivacious personality and the fit shows off how fun and playful she is.  I remember her calling this her “watermelon outfit” because she had the perfect pair of shoes to go with it. The whole look makes her shine like the star she is.

What’s a typical day like for you? Depending on what projects I have on the go, I get to wake up and usually enjoy a nice morning before heading out to a rehearsal.  However, I have to be comfortable enough to then switch into nanny-mode after school, where I tutor and cook – I wear an apron if anything is going to get too messy.  If I’m not working with the kids, I’ve also taken on jobs in the theatre working with costuming and props. I love helping shows come together, even if I’m not performing onstage. I’ve been kept busy on weekends with cabarets, show times and trying to keep up with my super-talented friends.

What in your life is really important to you? I love my wife, my cat and my family, and a lot of what I do is to support them and make them proud of me. Oh, and shoes.

Skirt: Sarah Flip Skirt – Mandala Design $78
Necklace: Curious Oddities $28
Shoes: Pepper – Miz Mooz $150

Style Coach Notes: This outfit takes comfy clothes to a whole new level.  When Kit is relaxing at home with her wife this is the perfect way to still look good and feel comfortable without going to those trusty sweat pants.  The bold print of the skirt keeps in theme with her personality and she can easily toss on her Miz Mooz shoes and head out for drinks with friends.

What would you like to be remembered for? I’d like to be remembered as a strong, classy woman. I’m not afraid to speak my mind and would like to be known for standing up for people who haven’t got a voice and for living what I believe in.

What role does fashion play in your life? I dress for myself, and love that feeling of stepping out in something that makes me feel confident and fresh. I love colour, and mixing modern accents with classic silhouettes and designs.

Dress: Drape Dress – Rita DiCesare $169
Shoes: Pepper- Miz Mooz $150

Style Coach Notes: Every girl needs a dress that they can feel comfortable and fun in, and this dress was perfect for Kit.  The print was just the right amount of fun to go with her personality and the dress is great for her life on the go!  She can throw it on and head to an audition and head home and relax and still look and feel fabulous.

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective? I love finding signature pieces there–the dress that you can do no wrong in; the shoes that hug your feet; the belt that everyone notices. There’s always something eye-catching and intriguing to find.

Dress: Suki Dress- Studio Fresh $179
Shoes Elly – Miz Mooz $155

Style Coach Notes: Stunning, just stunning in this dress!  This dress is great for Kit; it’s dressy and commands attention.  Kit has paired it with her own patterned tights which give the dress a little more drama and she’s ready for a night out on the town or to accept an academy award! This dress can easily go from day to night and matches her outgoing and creative personality. I love that Kit’s not afraid to take risks and mix up two different patterns!

What do you have that you want to promote?  I’m trading my stilettos for sideburns in the Lower Ossington’s production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch playing till May 24th.  I’m so excited to be part of this rock and roll classic that deals with gender identity , sexuality and discovering personal freedom.

Special thanks to Sweetpeas, our neighbour on Roncesvalles Avenue for allowing us to shoot in their gorgeous, sun-drenched flower and gift shop.

Style Profile – Rebecca Eckler

Name: Rebecca Eckler
Occupation: Author/journalist/blogger
Age: I’m 20 + 10 + 5 + 2 + 3. You do the math!
Lifestyle: As laid back as I can be in constant mayhem!

Dress: Patsy Cline – Annie 50 $184
Bracelet: Ch-Ch-Chains – BurfurtART $65
Shoes: Lonna T-Bar in rose – Hush Puppies $100

Style Coach Notes: Rebecca wanted a fun and bold look for her book launch. This dress with the fun and vibrant floral pattern was just the number to have her looking and feeling great. This dress suits her style and her petite frame, and she loved it so much, she bought it plus the shoes after our photo shoot!

What’s a typical day like for you?

Today, I got up at 7 a.m., woke up my daughter Rowan, age 10, to get her out of bed and get ready for school. Brought Holt, my son, 22 months, downstairs. Raced for personal training from 7:30 to 8 a.m. Went back home. Drove daughter to school. Head back to home office (trying to ignore the dozen 2 year-olds over because it’s my turn to host play group.) Spend about an hour procrastinating on Facebook. I pitched a couple of stories. They were accepted, which means I have to write them. Worked on story for Canadian Parents and also researching next book. Rush to pick up daughter at school and then usually she has a dance class or play practice (so I sit in my car and write!) Now, with The Mommy Mob about to launch, it’s a bit busier, doing press, and getting the word out there. Some days are busier than others. When I finally get home, it’s about reading to Holt before he goes to bed, and making sure my daughter gets her homework done (My life sounds so fun doesn’t it?). Then House of Cards! (And sometimes I get my Mommy On and party! SHH!)

What in your life is really important to you?

My children. My friends. Art. Music. Books. Reading. Fashion. My fiancé, Jordan. Jared Leto (who is not my fiancé.) Cheesecake. Beaches and sun!

Dress: Annette Dress – Studio Fresh $179
Boots and jewellery – Rebecca’s own

Style Coach Notes: This dress suits Rebecca’s boho style and we styled it with the slouchy boots Rebecca wore on the day of the shoot and her own jewellery. This dress is a perfect casual-yet-arty dress for a busy, cool mom-on-the-go like Rebecca. It’s got just enough shaping in the bodice to give it a flattering silhouette.  Although it suits Rebecca’s slender frame perfectly, it is just as lovely on larger ladies.

What would you like to be remembered for?

Now, that’s a tough one! Probably being a good mother. But I can tell you all the things I DON’T want to be remembered for!

But I think helping other women, who have read my books or blogs, to know that they are not alone, especially when it comes to Post Partum Depression or the right to have the option of what FEMALES want to do with their bodies, when it comes to birth. I would also liked to be remembered for my cooking. Which will never happen. Oh well.

Dress: Amy Dress in navy dots – Michelle Carey $198
Necklace: Ch-Ch-Chains belt (worn as a necklace) – BurfurtART $85
Bracelet: Ch-Ch-Chains – BurfurtART $65
Shoes: Lonna T-Bar in rose – Hush Puppies $100

Style Coach Notes: This fun and flirty dotted dress needed just a bit of edge to suit Rebecca’s style, so we went heavy metal with the chain necklace and bracelet. The shape accentuates an hourglass silhouette, and is a perfect dress for networking, a book launch or press interviews – or maybe, a well-deserved date night with her guy.

What role does fashion play in your life?

I love fashion. I love the Boho Chic look. My fiancé will tell you he likes me in a “slutty” look, so I always have to say, “You need to see it on me, not just on the hanger!” And then he always loves my fashion choices, which are NOT “slutty.” I like to be a little unique with fashion. I’m not into shopping at huge department stores.

I love boutiques, where you know you’re not going to be wearing the same thing as others! Fashion, like writing, is creative. So I always add something creative to my outfit, be it a funky bracelet, or necklace. I think Jennifer Aniston is my role model. She looks great in motorcycle boots and jeans, and she looks amazing on the red carpet. Also, I still have clothes that I’ve kept that are at least ten years old. I think that saying, “If you don’t wear it for a year, toss it!” is BS. Guess what? Fashion comes around again! (Even if it’s ten years later!) And now I’m noticing that my daughter has a better wardrobe than me! It was a sad parenting moment.

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective?

Well, I didn’t walk out of the store empty handed as you know! I think that says it all! That morning I stopped by [for the photo shoot] I was not planning to walk out with a new pair of pants, dress, and shoes! I just loved them so much that I couldn’t NOT buy them! I also love that the staff will help you put together an outfit if you’re not 100% sure about it. They’re not going to let you leave looking like crap! And I love that many of the pieces are really one-of-a-kind. It’s so awful of me, but I feel that Fresh Collective is somewhat of a secret find in Toronto. I kind of don’t want everyone to know about it! Kidding.

Dress: Alissa dress in pink and grey dots – Bionic $119
Bracelet: Ch-Ch-Chains – BurfurtART $45
Shoes: Lonna T-Bar in black – Hush Puppies $100

Style Coach Notes: This stunning dress is another winner for Rebecca. The print is fun and the cut is sophisticated with the body conscious shaping. The gathering at the hip creates subtle style and shaping to accentuate a waistline and flatter most figures. This is another fabulous, versatile style for Rebecca’s busy life and crazy schedule!

What do you have that you want to promote?

My ninth book, The Mommy Mob, is coming out at the end of the month! It’s a book for anyone who is a mother, plans to be one, or wonder what is it’s like to be a mother in the year 2014. Mothers have become so judgmental to each other, it is out of control. In The Mommy Mob, readers will get to see the hate mail and comments I receive, while I try to figure out when mothers became so vicious to one another. I’m really a very loyal, girl’s girl, so I can’t comprehend how vicious and outrageous and insane some mothers are when they disagree with some aspect of parenting. You can buy it here: order The Mommy Mob.

You WILL laugh so hard you might cry. The Mommy Mob shows what *some* mothers can be like. It’s like the scariest playground in the world, when it comes to mommy bloggers, which my book focuses on. You’ll read it and think, “Wow! And I thought I had a bad day. Look what Eckler has to go through!”

Is there anything else we should know about you? I want a puppy, just so I can name him/her “Raisin.” But I don’t think it’s going to happen. And I’m not very good at parking. At all.
