Spring Yoga Jeans are in!

Yoga Jeans collage

Here are the new High Rise 27″ Skinny Jeans from Yoga Jeans!  Yay!  And we’re excited to announce we now carry Yoga Jeans at ALL THREE locations and online!  These babies come in 4 colours: Royal, Maroon, Jade and Ebony.  Above are the official Yoga Jeans photos, and below are our pictures on our lovely Vanessa from our Queen Street store.

You may think you’re looking at totally different jeans!  But nope. They’re the same!  Now Vanessa is 5’10’ with long legs and they still come to just above her ankle.  They look a LOT shorter on the model (who we can assume is very tall!)  On a 5’5″ gal, these would likely hit right at the ankle.

Now, the colour.  What the heck?  The official photos look Crayola bright, and ours look pretty muted.  In reality, it’s about half way in between.  They’re actually the PERFECT mix of colourful but toned down.

Here is the truest photo we could get of the maroon to give you a better idea of the colour.

Now, are you in that 4.2% of Toronto women who have never tried Yoga Jeans?  Those few who wonder why it’s practically a religion?  Here’s an article you should check out – but only if you’re interested in jeans that look great, feel even better and don’t cause muffin top!

See them in action in Monteal, the city they are designed and made!

Here are the kind of comments we hear every day in our stores!  (These testimonials are from the Yoga Jeans site.)

OMG just bought a pair and LOOOOOVE them. I cannot wear anything else! I never thought I looked good in jeans before Yoga Jeans™!

-Brigitte F.

By far the best jeans I’ve ever owned

Dear Second Clothing, I just wanted to write you an email to say thank you for making such wonderful jeans! I just bought my third pair of Yoga Jeans™ and I can’t say enough about them. The fit is so perfect and comfortable, they are by far the best jeans I’ve ever owned! I get many compliments on them and I recommend them to anyone I can! I also love that they are Canadian made. So with all of that being said I just wanted to say thank you and keep up the good work!!

-Robyn V.

I recently bought two pairs of your jeans and would like to say two things: 1) I am so glad you are a made in Canada company! That is somethign that is very important to me and ultimately important for sustainability worldwide! The price point of these jeans is perfect considering where it’s made and the quality 2) These jeans are the most comfortable jeans I own! The size 26 fit me perfectly!

-Janice M.

I just recently purchased a pair of Yoga Jeans™, and promptly went out and purchased a second pair the very next weekend. I am so very impressed by the quality, comfort and style of these jeans. One change of shoes makes these go from casual to business and look great in both worlds. Did I mention the comfort!!!! Brilliant, and proudly Canadian……thank you and I plan to continue my support of your brilliance by continually adding to my wardrobe, and might I add,  my comfort and confidence! Happy I found you, and keep up the great work. You gave me comfort just when I needed it most.

Come on in to our stores today to try some on.  You’ll be SO glad you did!  🙂

Occupation: Freelance Multimedia Artist
Age: I know how to act like an adult…I think?
Lifestyle: I would probably have to say my lifestyle is fairly free spirited and spontaneous!

Dress: Patti – Mandala Design, $178; Shoes: Joni heel – Miz Mooz, $136 (regularly $170)

What’s a typical day like for you? There is no typical day! One day I could be tattooing works of art on skin, another I could be working on a commissioned oil painting on canvas, the next doing make-up and hair styling for a Scottish-Jewish-Gay wedding! Or, perhaps a day off at The Beach? Who knows!

What in your life is really important to you? I know it’s cliche’d, but my friends and family. They support me and encourage me. They keep me going and make it all worth it. Also my two fantastic cats, Ralph & Paul.Freedom. Pizza. Cooking in general actually, but definitely pizza. Even better, freedom pizza.

…and of course, the ability to create art!

Dress: Lexi – Mandala Design $148, Shoes: Joni Heel – Miz Mooz, $136 (regular price $170)

What would you like to be remembered for? Ever since I was a child, I wanted to be a famous artist like Picasso or Dali (both favourites and super inspirational to me) where they were able to be recognized for their talents *within* their lifetime and thereafter. I wanted to be just like them, building a career out of their passion. It would be pretty amazing to be remembered for my art once I’m gone.

What role does fashion play in your life? Fashion has always been a part of who I am. Throughout the years I have enjoyed being a sort of chameleon with all the different styles, expressing my moods through clothing/hair/makeup from day to day.

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective? I love the unique array of styles, colours, the friendly service and don’t forget they support independent local designers!

What do you have that you want to promote?
Inspired by scenes from the cult classic film, The Shining, I have created 7 multimedia works of art. All pieces are done on an old Ikea desk or dresser panel – reused and repurposed using oil & acrylic paints, Col-erase pencils, graphite, pyrography (wood burning), carving/sanding (rotary/Dremel), collage, and more!

It was a four month project with countless hours of work involved.

6 out of 7 pieces are still on display at Cardinal Rule restaurant at 5 Roncesvalles Ave until the end of June.

“Ebony Goddess” – Oil paints and varnish on an old 5 foot Ikea desk top.

“Jack” Pyrography, collage, Col-Erase pencil, oil paint, stucco gel and varnish on an old Ikea desk panel.

“Dick Holloran – The Cook” – Pyrography stipple, Col-Erase pencil, graphite, acrylic paints and varnish on an old Ikea desk panel. (CLOSE UP)

“Danny Torrance” – Pyrography, oil paints, carving/sanding(Dremel/rotary tool), acrylic paints, marker and varnish on an old Ikea desk panel.

Prints as well as the original pieces are available for purchase in my Etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/SquidworxMedia

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective? Canadian! Canadian! Canadian! Local! Local! Local! Fresh Collective has created a whole lifestyle brand and experience when you shop! You don’t just go in to shop, you go to learn about the designers and experience the ‘FC Culture!’

What do you have that you want to promote?  Well, of course I want to promote the three pieces I’m wearing in these pictures.  These have been developed through the #FCfreshstrart program in which I started with a blank sketchbook and a curious mind.  I interviewed customers and did surveys to find out what customers would really want to buy, and I came up with these three garments.  I’m working on producing them for sale now, and I’m so excited to see how the public receives them!

As well, eek! My latest sewing projects have been bow ties. I am a fanatic! I love them, I love creating them, I love sewing them! I just made 25 bow ties for a serving crew for an event and also some wedding parties. 🙂 Getting hitched? Going to an event? Gift idea? I’m your girl!

Style Profile: Emilia Farrace

Name:  Emilia Farrace
Occupation:  Entrepreneur! (Owner of Simply Elaborate Creative, A Girl Boss life + Mealspirations)
Age: 30

Lifestyle:  I have a laidback lifestyle with a penchant for beautiful things and for things that make me feel like life is beautiful.  It’s laidback in “look” but full in action.

What’s a typical day like for you?  Meeting new people, current clients, my business partner, people, entrepreneurs, or designing websites, putting the finishing touches to websites, communicating with my team, members of my friends and family – writing!  I’m on the go almost always, on subways, streetcars, going from one end of the city to the other. But at the end of the day, cozy in the Annex with my cat, partner and knitting. Yes, I knit.

What in your life is really important to you?  My voice, my ability to take a stand and inspire others. I think often we need to help each other, find confidence in each other when sometimes it’s wavering in ourselves. Isn’t it nice if we could all find a little time to share inspiring things with one another?

Blouse: Nelle by Monikova – $135.00; Skirt: Jupe Denim by Cameleon – $98.00; Famke by Bloomin’ Brilliant – $58.00; Truss by Bloomin’ Brilliant – $46.00

What would you like to be remembered for? I’d like to be remembered for my compassion and determination to fulfill promises. I want to be inspiring and help others achieve their dreams – help to develop the strategy and ideas to get there.

What role does fashion play in your life?  I wear clothes every day! So they’re pretty important 🙂  My mood for the day really depends on what I’m wearing to the office. I’m in a co-sharing work environment so I don’t really have the same constrictions that others in an office may have. But when I want a really, professional, productive day – you’ll be surprised on how getting ready in the morning really develops the mood for the rest of the day.

Fresh Collective Style Profile – Yvonne Bambrick

Top: Slouch tee – Yasmine Louise $65
Jeans: Yoga Jeans – Second Denim $120
Necklace: girliepearlies – BurfurtART $46

Name: Yvonne Bambrick
Occupation: Urban Cycling Consultant, Photographer, Coordinator of the Forest Hill Village BIA
Age: 38

What’s a typical day like for you?

There’s nothing typical about my days. I’ve got such a wide variety of things that come up from week to week – from a photo shoot across town, to a meeting in a local cafe, emails (always and throughout the day), helping a relative get to a Dr.’s appointment, site-meetings, glass of wine in the market, an evening lecture… I’m regularly amazed at just how much can fit into a day, but I have no doubt that I would never be able to get as much done without my trusty bicycle. Predictable travel times and no traffic – works for me!

What in your life is really important to you?

Friends, family, my bicycle and my camera – in whatever order best suits my daily schedule

Coat: Sacha – Soia and Kyo $445
Sweater: Apiomorphic tunic – Jennifer Fukushima $199
Necklace: girliepearlies – BurfurtART $48
Jeans: Yoga Jeans – Second Denim $120

What would you like to be remembered for?

I’d love to be remembered for the contributions I’ll continue to make to the livability and enjoyment of my hometown Toronto, and for being a fiercely loyal and reliable friend.

What role does fashion play in your life?

Fashion trends aren’t something I follow, but I like to look well put together while also being practically dressed for riding a bike everywhere. I have my own style that evolves with the pieces that come my way via clothing swaps, or that I find of occasional shopping excursions with my style icon, and dearest buddy, Melanie.

Dress: Mona Dress – Studio Fresh – $189

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective?

I try to buy locally made everything and can always count on Fresh Collective to have beautiful, flattering clothes that won’t go out of style, whatever that means 😉

What do you have that you want to promote?

I just wrote a book about how to ride a bicycle in the city and I’d love to get it into as many hands as possible! Although this book is aimed at new and would-be riders, there’s plenty of useful information in it for people who are already comfortable on the roads. The Urban Cycling Survival Guide comes out in March 2015, but you can pre-order it online (see link below!).  Better yet, why not ask your local bookstore if they plan to carry it! A great gift for any bike-lovers on your holiday gift list 😉

Fresh Collective Style Profile – Kat Shura

I have had the pleasure of working with Kat for several years now.  Her jewellery line Curious Oddities is one of the most popular lines at our three locations, and Kat is a fabulous person to know and to do business with.  Season after season, she puts so much work and thought into her business and designs and the results speak for themselves as customers come back time and again to add to their jewellery collections.  Let’s learn a bit more about this creative powerhouse!

– Laura-Jean Bernhardson, CEO and founder of Fresh Collective

Name: Kat Shura
Occupation: Collector, curator, dreamer, story teller and creative mastermind behind Curious Oddities jewelry
Age: Ancient soul, young at heart
Lifestyle: I live a passionately creative, colorful, sensual and expressive life, with lots of pie.

Top: Dania Tunic – Desserts and Skirts $125
Necklace: Floral crescent – Curious Oddities $ 35
Jeans: High Rise Skinnies -Second Denim Yoga Jeans $120
Boots: Model’s own, no longer available

What’s a typical day like for you?

My day begins when the cats decide that I’ve slept long enough and it’s high time that I feed them breakfast. Generally I shoot for a leisurely morning, especially when I know it’s going to be a long day in the studio. I work for myself and really enjoy what I do, so I’ve found it essential to block in some non-work, self-centre time, for coffee, yoga, breakfast and even a little reading. Most of my days are spent in my studio, making jewelry or photographing pieces; I love listening to Old-time radio detective stories and audiobooks while I work. Mid-day I usually take a break to walk to the farmers market to pick up things for dinner and get a little sunshine, then back to the studio till evening! I love checking out live bands at night when I’m feeling social, a bath and a good book when I’m not.

What in your life is really important to you?

My health, vitality and imagination, the close connection that I have with my mum even though she lives so far away, my caring and supportive community of family, friends and fellow crafters, good food, a garden, lots of personal space and of course, my cats!

scaled_image (21)

Top: Evolve Top – Encircled $92
Necklaces: Quartz and Czech glass – Curious Oddities $45; Turquoise drop – $36
Skirt: Jo the Elk – Desserts and Skirts $95

What would you like to be remembered for?

My creativity, my passion, my spirit and my ability to help people see and value the beauty and magic that surrounds them.

What role does fashion play in your life?

I love watching fashions and trends emerge from street level and grow to mainstream, I find it absolutely fascinating. As well, I find it wonderful to see how younger generations pick and choose looks from earlier periods- mixing and matching pieces into completely new styles. Some of the results are a little frightening, but I have always loved fashion as a display of art and creativity, social challenge or personal expression.

Fresh Collective Style Profile – Laura Spink

I became a fan of Laura’s band The Young Novelists after seeing them share the stage with the band my husband plays in (Ron Hawkins and the Do Good Assassins).   Their music is great (check it out!) and following their activity on Facebook I could see they were travelling a lot and playing lots of gigs all over the place.  What I didn’t know until I got to know her better was that Laura also is a mom and has a full time career as a scientist!  Let’s learn a little more about this fabulous busy, inspiring and accomplished lady!  – Laura-Jean, CEO and Founder of Fresh Collective

Name: Laura Spink
Occupation: Vocalist and percussionist in Toronto-based folk-rock band The Young Novelists and hydrogeologist with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change
Age: A good age.
Lifestyle: So busy! But in a good way! I dress pretty casually during the day, but when I perform I dress up.

Top: Erika – Mandala Design $78
Skirt: Jupiter – Annie 50 $145
Shoes – Lonna Mary Jane – Hush Puppies $100

What’s a typical day like for you?

I’m so not a morning person, so on a typical weekday when I’m not playing a gig, I force myself out of bed, have a quick shower, throw on something work appropriate, kiss my husband and son goodbye and dash out the door to catch the bus to my day job downtown. After work I come home and spend time with my son until his bedtime around eight. Then depending on the night, I’ll either have rehearsal, hunker down in front of the computer and do administrative band things (endless emails, social media stuff, graphic design), or go out to see live music and catch up with friends. There is so much live music going on on any given night in Toronto; it’s really quite amazing!

Jacket: Monilifera Blazer – Jennifer Fukushima $379
Top: Yasmine Louis $55
Jeans: Yoga Jean (High Rise Skinny) $120
Boots: Laura’s own

What in your life is really important to you?

Spending time with my four year old son Simon is the most precious thing. He is the most amazing person I know. But it’s also important to my husband and I that Simon sees his parents do what they love doing, which means that sometimes we’re away from home playing music (and our he gets to hang out with his grandparents). It’s a balance and we’re always reassessing how to make it work so we’re all happy.

What role does fashion play in your life?

Honestly, I feel somewhat overwhelmed by fashion a lot of the time. I know what I like on other people, but I feel totally overwhelmed when I go shopping for clothes. I’m a lot more confident when it comes to the dresses I perform in though. When I was in grade nine, my grandmother let my sister and I raid her closet, since then I’ve always loved that 50s and 60s vibe. When I play I generally wear one of my grandmother’s dresses or a vintage inspired dress from one of the independent clothing shops around town. Dressing up helps put me in a different headspace.

Dress: Jayne Retro Shirt Dress – Mandala Design $138
Shoes: Adah ankle boots – Miz Mooz $210 (now on sale for $168)

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective?

The folks who work there are so great at helping style challenged people like me put together an outfit. Plus the clothes they carry are mostly independent Canadian designers, which I love.

What do you have that you want to promote?

The Young Novelists are playing a residency at the Cameron House (408 Queen St West) from 8-10pm every Monday in November (3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th). We’re also putting the finishing touches on our new album, which will be release in the Spring, and we’re planning a big old party to celebrate!

Is there anything else we should know about you?

I was a pretty good triple jumper and 200 metre sprinter back in high-school.

Style Profile – Tammy Gunn

I met Tammy for the first time at a course I was taking, and immediately fell in love with her energy and zest for life.  She is amazing, inspiring and fun to be around.  I figured she’d be a perfect model for Fresh Collective, as her whole way of being embodies what Fresh Collective is all about, and as you can see from the pictures, she did an amazing job!  – Laura-Jean Bernhardson, Founder and CEO of Fresh Collective

Style Coach notes: Tammy LOVED this sassy little leopard number that fits and flatters in all the right places.  A perfect dress for date night, this also works for those occasions that she needs a business casual look.  With a tank or camisole under to tone down the low neck, and a cardigan or fitted blazer over, this look is perfect for teaching or an office environment.

What’s a typical day like for you? I fitness dance for about 5 hours a day!

What in your life is really important to you? Family/Fitness/Friends

What role does fashion play in your life? Gotta be funky and fun ‘cuz that is who I am!

What do you love about shopping at Fresh Collective?  Since being in the fitness industry for quite some time and aging along the way, I lost touch with what my “out of fitness clothes look” looked like.  I have been uncomfortable in putting on anything other than fitness gear.  What I love about shopping at Fresh Collective is the experience of the people working there along with the clothes.  Feeling comfortable enough to share with them how I have been feeling and to let them in on my personality had them support me in picking things out I never would have tried on but once I was wearing them….I never wanted to take them off! The clothes are comfortable, fashionable and the staff just make easy to have fun and find your groove and style. They listen.  Makes me want to dress up more often knowing there is awesome clothes out there for me!

scaled_image (10)

Dress: Venice dress – Studio Fresh, $169
Shoes: Ellie shoes – Miz Mooz, $155

Style coach notes: Many women don’t wear dresses and get stuck in a jeans and tee shirt rut because their lifestyle is casual, but a dress like this is even more comfortable and actually takes less effort to get ready for the day!  With a dress there is only one decision to make!

What do you have that you want to promote?   I am all about empowering women to have fun and have a great workout. Everyone should be able to feel great and have fun doing it.  That’s what my Zumba and Laughter Yoga classes are all about: empowering women to love every minute of their lives!   I want to promote my company and my classes: WWW.LIVEOUTLOUDMOVEMENT.COM.

scaled_image (7)

Dress: Drape 14 dress – Studio Fresh $179
Shoes: Ellie shoes – Miz Mooz, $ 155

Style Coach notes:  Aside from her fitness career, Tammy is a part-time Course Supervisor in a personal and professional training and development company.  She needs business casual clothes that still suit her personality for that role, and we had a lot of fun finding dresses that were comfortable, stylish, polished and professional, but still very “Tammy”!

Is there anything else we should know about you?  I am super happy to be a part of this!  I also work in schools as well as empowering young women to love fitness!

Jeans: High Rise Ankle Jeans, Yoga Jeans by Second Denim, $ 115
Necklace: Myka Jewellery, $199

Style coach notes: Tammy’s lifestyle is very casual, yet these orange jeans and fashionable tee-shirt, as well as the great shoes and jewellery elevate a casual and comfortable outfit to one that stands out and is stylish too.

Style Profile – Brandy King

For this Style Profile, we went to Brandy’s favourite restaurant near our Queen Street store, Sud Forno to show off some great pieces from our spring collections. Whenever Brandy makes a trip into Toronto from Cambridge, the two musts on her list are Fresh Collective and Sud Forno! It’s obvious this photographer has great taste and the gorgeous restaurant proved to be the perfect backdrop for Brandy’s naturally beautiful style.

Name: Brandy King
Occupation: Photographer, Business Owner
Age: 32

Marjorie dress by Melow par Melissa Bolduc.  $184.
Floral Trave Sling Shoes by Hush Puppies, $80.
Dyed Howlite necklace by Curious Oddites.  $55.

I chose this outfit for Brandy with her lifestyle in mind.  Brandy’s always on the go, and this comfortable yet polished dress is just the thing to get her through a summer day.  She can get up and go (in comfortable flats!), do a bit of editing then head out to meet a client.Next would be some errands and a lunch date with her hubby, and then some more meetings. She could even go straight to a dinner out with the girls or with her in-laws, looking fantastic from morning to night.

This dress is flattering for any figure with the draping caused by the wrap.  It accentuates an hourglass shape and falls gently over tummy and hips.  Best of all, with the layers of fabric, it doesn’t reveal every little detail of what’s underneath.

What’s a typical day like for you?

My days are filled with as much inspiration as I can pack into them.

I start most days with exercise and a good breakfast and then I’m off to the races. If I’m not shooting photographs, I’m editing them, meeting with clients, working on my website or other promotional material to help share my art with the community.

It’s also important to me to spend quality time with my supportive (and dare I say handsome) husband, amazing friends and wonderful family.

What in your life is really important to you?

Doing what I love and making beautiful things. It seems simple but sometimes, making time for what you love can be the hardest thing you ever do. It’s worth it.

Also, it’s important to be myself and be happy, as often as I can be.

Amy Dress by Michelle Carey.  $198.
Rose Lonna T-Bar Shoes by Hush Puppies. $100.
Soutache Necklace by Victoria Sorkin. $85.

This playful dress is a perfectly fun look for Brandy.  The fitted empire waist and full skirt compliment her curves and show off her tiny waist.  The dots suit her joyful and creative personality, and we chose rose coloured shoes and a matching necklace to add an extra touch of femininity.

This is a great dress for lot of occasions and can be styled in many ways to get various looks.  Brandy can try a light belted cardigan over top to make it slightly more serious, tights, boots and a blazer for cooler weather, and a red belt and red shoes for a nautical feel.  When a dress looks this great, you want to find a lot of excuses to wear it!

What would you like to be remembered for?

If I am to be remembered, I’d like it to be for inspiring people to do what they love and for loving without condition.

What role does fashion play in your life?

Fashion plays two MAJOR roles for me.

It’s the art I live my life in. It gives me confidence as a business owner and a woman, to go out in the world everyday and engage people about my
own art.
It’s the paint on my canvas (so to speak). My specialty is photographing people, so what they wear is a huge part of the final image. I try to help coach my clients on what will work well for the final image we are trying to create.

Fresh Collective stands behind the unique product they sell. I love that they support local designers and that you know the pieces you leave with will last for years. The service is also outstanding.

High Rise Skinny Yoga Jeans.  $120.00
Rose Lonna T-Bar Shoes by Hush Puppies.  $100.00
Peach Malone Bag by Matt & Nat.  $130.00
Ring by Curious Oddities.  $25.00
Hand printed and dyed Scarf by Katie Walker.  $40.00

As a creative professional, it’s important for Brandy to show up to see clients looking polished and, well, fabulous.  As a photographer, her clients are trusting her visual judgement so presenting herself well put together is a great opportunity to show her taste and sense of colour, scale and shape. This unique jacket is perfect for Brandy with it’s simple styling, asymmetrical shape and easy style.  It’s trim and polished, and oh so stylish.  The asymmetry is flattering to almost any woman’s body as diagonal lines play up length and an hourglass shape.

The Yoga Jeans Brandy’s wearing look oh-so- casual and ever-so-stylish.  They also allow total freedom of movement and comfort which is essential for Brandy’s busy life.  The hand printed scarf adds an artistic flair and the pink shoes and purse add a playful and feminine touch.
